  • Genuine question, why this sandal is different from other cheaper ones ?

    • you meant this? $15 https://www.kmart.com.au/product/double-buckle-sandals-s1665…
because the brand. and i guess the material (especially the leather part) will last a bit longer than the cheaper ones

      • Agreed, the bottom rubber and actual cork.

Also, 'Birko flor' is the non-leather version.

    • Materials, construction. The brand also obviously plays into it.

There's a Rose Anvil video that compares Birkenstocks to knockoffs.

      TLDW:

      • Cheaper ones may not use a cork (Birkenstocks are meant to mold to your feet as you wear them.)
      • Weaker materials
      • May fart while you walk
    • I’ve had my pair of Birks Arizona for 10 years and they are just starting to fall apart. I’ve probably been wearing them once a week on average. Can’t say how well a Kmart pair would hold up

      • +1

Depending on condition, you may be able to get more life by applying cork sealer or resoling if the sole hasn't worn through to the cork.

    • Subjective?

  • Awesome price, they have gone up a lot.
Ordered two pairs for the Mrs.

  • For someone new to Birkenstock sandals but heard so much good things about them. What would you recommend for someone with a larger foot in this range for durability?

    • +1

I'd look at the Arizona model with a leather upper. My preference is oiled leather.

If you're after durability maybe consider some of the more rugged models, such as the cross town. You can also resole them with Vibram soles after the original soles wears out.

Would also recommend trying in-store first.

      • Would you know if the vibram resoling is done through the official Birkenstock repairers? Or just any cobbler?

        • Sorry, no idea. I haven't had a sole reach EOL yet.

      • Cheers for that

  • are these good for sweaty feet ? thnx

    • +1

Yes, these have suede liners so these don’t get slippery when sweaty. Avoid Boston/ clogs for sweaty feet.

  • Those white ones are gonna look manky pretty fast.
