    What happened to this series?
I guess it's good they ended it on a high but paradise was incredible. Would have like to see something with the graphics or Forza/gt7 but the fun of burnout paradise

The studio, ctiterion games, got hired to do some need for speed games, and i think that is where their attention is atm

EA pushed Them (criterion games) into the NFS series starting with NFS hot pursuit in 2010.

the remaster of that game from a few years ago is extremely burnout 3 in feel. controls feel a bit heavier but it has the huge point to point races, sweeping turns, traffic dodging and boost reward mechanics of the burnout series. I play it all the time.

The original developers have long since left criterion/EA and did attempt to make their own spiritual successor to Burnout but it was a little sterile feeling (dangerous driving, with a sequel that I dont think eventuated). 3 fields entertainment is their new studio name.

Cool little rabbit hole I went down exploring their newer titles. Thanks!

NFS Most Wanted remake (2012) is worth checking out too - that was their follow-up to the Hot Pursuit remake, and it was open world like Burnout Paradise, borrowing many features from BP. It's as close as we'll get to a Criterion BP sequel I think.

I'm still pretty dirty at EA for destroying Burnout and Criterion.

It doesn't really matter, gran turismo basically invalidated all racing games

Personally burnout was at its peak with Burnout 3 Takedown and Burnout Revenge but I do own this one and from what I’ve played don’t hate it

Agree completely - Burnout 3 was the peak of the series. Revenge was OK, but the "traffic checking" mechanic was kind of rubbish… it kind of defeats a lot of the point of a racing game when you can just plow through the traffic instead of having to avoid it. Paradise was also great but I'm not a fan of the open world design, I prefer the more focused approach of set tracks.

I've just been getting back into Burnout 3 recently after getting myself a Retroid Pocket 5 for Christmas. Still holds up well today, heaps of fun to play and still looks good when upscaled to 1080p. What a great game.

  • Got boring after about 10 hours but it was a fun 10 hours. Absolute must-play but don’t go in thinking this is going to have lasting value.

  • Wasn't NFS Most Wanted 2012 basically a sequel to this but with brand name cars and a similar sandbox city style gameplay. Then NFS Rivals kind of was a sequel to that game.

    Burnout Revenge was the best.
Have Paradise and really don't like / play it.
