Oppo Find X8 Pro - China Version

Need to upgrade my Huawei P30 pro which I have had for 5 years.

Thinking of getting the Oppo Find X8 Pro but can't justify spending $1800 at JB for it!

Looking on Ebay, can get a Chinese version for around $1200. I'm aware with issues of the Play store not working so it will need to be installed. Just want to find out if anyone in Aus has done this and how are finding using the China version?

Assuming they'll be bugs and issues. But is it something that's manageable and I can save around $500?

Someone is reporting they have no cellular communication unless they're on roaming or wifi: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/30x1r8j4

$1200 + shipping + import/gst. ~1300. If you use the JB Hi-Fi gift card plan + JB deal via live chat you can get it for around the same price.

    • Thanks, might go down this route if I can snag a good deal. What do you mean by JB deal via live chat?

If you go on the jb hifi website you can talk to a sales associate through Live Chat and they can give you a deal on the phone. I did it last year and the deal they gave me was $1718 or something for the phone.

Are you prepared for everything in Chinese?

Possible issues with Android auto, google pay, no esim, missing bands.

I've bought a couple Oppo flagships but waited until they're a year old and discounted to half price.

I thought that there was no android auto for the chinese variant. There's also issues where not the entire OS is translated so some things are still in Chinese.

not the entire OS is translated so some things are still in Chinese.

        Yeah, I've read that too.

I've been looking at the vivo phones. The China only X100 ultra got Android auto as part of a beta update and it's taken like 6 months for that since release.

If you can wait a few months, chances are JB will put it on sale. That's how I got my Oppo X5 Pro for $1200 from JB. I think the full price was $1600 but not sure. I bought it in June the year it was released. The phone has been amazing in every regard. I would not have regretted the purchase even at full price. With regards to the Chinese version, in my opinion it's too much money to risk with imports with the recent changes in the mobile networks and all that.

    • Yeah agree, that's why I posted the question. After the comments, I don't think I'll take the risk.

    • Was it this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/705463

I also got one from it, still using it to this day.

  • Will it have the right frequencies to work here if Chinese version?

    as far as i know
    - no esims
    - no android auto
    - some Chinese apps
    - different bands for gsm and wifi (?)

but it has English in Chinese version as a second language

keep in mind - ive had an Honor phone (global, original, 5G) purchased in Europe and it doesn't work in Australia since 3G was discontinued last year.
