$150 for a camping chair without a drink holder is definitely a choice

The extra light weight is pretty tempting though especially if you need to lug a few around

Its main purpose is the lightweight, so guess for backpackers?

If car camping, this wont be necessary.

      • Yes the Zero line is for backpacking.

Having said that the normal zero is 200g lighter, still decent back support…

Not sure the extra weight is really necessary.

      • I've car camped, caravan and camper trailer and still conscious about weight + space. My biggest concern is theft as trust nobody so stash em away at night into car.

4-5 folding chairs and that 35-40kg easy.

    • Its for backpack camping not car camping

    • So you're not a happy camper then…

  • Does anyone with a genuine Helinox have any insights into the perceived quality compared to some of the clones out there? I've got a clone I purchased from bunnings and honestly I'm on the heavier side at 85kg and it's been fine. I'd like to know if there's any benefit to buying the original, or if it's just a matter of rewarding the original creator if you're passionate about it.

I've used both and they about on par. Will come down to long term durability I guess. I have the aldi one and the mountain designs one, compared to my mates helinox one (albeit it's much older) it's for most intents and purposes the same.

        uninTENTional pun?

    • I didn't have a Helinox, but I had an Alite Designs chair, which is the original, and cost about the same as Helinox. I've had nothing but trouble with it, and multiple have failed on me.

Helinox Chair Zero (not highback) is "significantly" lighter at ~600g compared to closer to 1000g for most of the cheaper clones ($50 from Amazon), and less bulky. However it does sit slightly lower, which is not as comfortable for the knees when seated or getting up, and also is narrower and some people find it a bit tight. For me, I grab the Zero when backpack camping (due to space and weight), but the clone for general purpose (due to comfort). Both are better than stool type designs which may be smaller and still take the weight off the legs but lack the (lower) back support which gives even more muscles a rest after a big day.

If you haven't tried it, sit in the Helinox Sunset (high back model on a larger chassis) and that's amazingly comfortable, but not the same lightweight camping class as this one.

    • Have a normal Helinox Zero.

Have used it many many times in hikes in winter and all over the place.

Never had any concerns for durability, they really basically pushed the absolute limit for weight of the product versus comfort and durability.

Most of the knock offs don't use the same integrated hinge/support frame, so they are less stable and either heavier or less comfortable.

If you can find a 400g chair with a back that handles 120kg, it's either just about a perfect clone or they are lying.

I think Nemo make a decent one but it relies on sling tension.

I can vouch for the Helinox Zero (original - not high back) - super super light weight and compact - easy to throw in a backpack and not notice it. I got a ridiculously good deal though, otherwise couldn’t just justified rrp buying two.

If you're into wandering around, like manly to bondi walk, this chair feels like nothing in your backpack and you will love how this would come in handy. I like to walk and chill around, so this comfortable chair is my edc.

I tried 5+ clone versions before, and nothing came near the helinox in weight. You may think that 400 500g (a bottle of water) more would not be a big deal, but for something always in ur urban backpack everyday, it makes a big difference.

  • Damn, missed it! Just on the lookout for one and haven't seen this much sub $200

  • I grabbed Coles four seasons brand hiking chair at $20 or $5, weight around 1.0x kg, pretty good.

Durability is survived after a couple of multi day hiking and camping, tortured by kids playing card game while sittting on them.
