That's 1.31363203051" for anyone else interested.

  • +1

Wish this is price of their canvas tv

  • -1

Not sure why they use android os instead they use VIDAA SMART

    • +4

it's horrible i wonder maybe thats why theyre little cheaper

    • +2

Yes Smart TV VIDAA 7 should be an instant fail (looks with hate at study 50 inch Hisense).

But, you can always get a chromecast with chrome tv, Apple TV, firestick, shield etc. for a decent user interface (I happily use an Apple TV for that).

Why Hisense inflict VIDAA on us when they use google TV in the USA is a mystery that surely costs Hisense sales here.

    • Yeah my hisense q8 has great hardware but severely let down by the shitty vidaa

    • To lock out apps that make life better for the user, aka; Youtube ad skippers

A greatly reduced app store to please the BIG medias, if you can even call it that.

  • Can anyone recommend a good tv in this price range for watching sport? I imagine a faster refresh rate would be better?

    • +3

Faster refresh rate would be better, though in this price range the TV posted by OP looks like a good deal.

      • cheers, yeah its not for me but a mate that wants a tv for his shed (man cave) 55" will be a good size for him… I told him to spend a bit more for a higher refresh rate if possible… Just hoping someone might have seen something that I have not…

        • +4

Have been researching something similar at the moment, and from what I have seen the cheapest ~144hz refresh rate TV is the TCL C755 (or potentially older C745 if stores still have it available, but it is definitely not as good as the C755). Not actually sure how it handles sport.

55" has been around $800, but best at the moment is about $880. Not quite in the same price range of course.

@djkelly69: You're talking about the motion rate, not refresh rate. Motion rate is where the TV makes up frames in the middle to try make things look smoother. It's horrible for movies and tv shows, and only good implementations look okay for sport. Budget TV's do a crap job. In my personal experience, I turn it off for everything. A friend I have swears by it for sport, even though it's artificial and not what the source is actually broadcasting.

Refresh rate on most TV's will either be 60hz or 120hz (for higher models that support HDMI 2.1), and some TV's are now supporting 144hz for gaming with PC's, and even then that only matters if you're using a PS5, Xbox Series X, Apple TV or a PC to play games. All of your TV content via free-to-air will be 60hz, movies are 24hz (24fps), and TV shows are a mix these days from 24 to 60 but even then, that relies on the TV to support the ability to support switching. Most do with the correct setup.

No sports or broadcasting standards in use frame rates above 60fps/60hz.

            • @BillyG687: I am not claiming to be any sort of expert, but the manufacturer's website states it (c755 for example) has a 'variable refresh rate' up to 144hz.

I have seen other TV listings refer to a '200 motion rate' or similar, but that is not the case for this TV (or the c745).

              • +2

@djkelly69: Like I said in my post, some TV’s support a refresh rate of 144hz VRR using AMD’s tech. However, that’s only if the source supports and can output it. At the moment, that’s only a PC at 144hz.

Like I say in my comment, even with the TV able to do 120hz or 144hz refresh rate only matter for the source. TV, Foxtel or a streaming app doesn’t support it and that’s where the motion smoothing comes in. TCL calls it AI-MEMC. It fakes a higher refresh rate by filling in the blanks because the sport you’re watching is only 60hz.

Essentially if I were foxtel and you’re the TV, I send you 60 pictures but you want 120. So you make up 60 fake pictures to slot between all of mine to make it look smoother.

                • -2

@BillyG687: The poster asked about a TV with a higher refresh rate around this price range, which is what I responded to (and the information is correct according to the manufacturer). There was no mention of what the source material was.

If you want to discuss with them why they are wrong for wanting a higher refresh rate TV, go for it.

                  • @djkelly69: Because, if you read their comment they’re asking specifically for sport…

                    • -1

@BillyG687: So reply to them and tell them a higher refresh rate TV is not what they need, rather than replying to tell me I was wrong when I wasn't.

Most TV providers will broadcast 60fps or lower, so having a 120hz tv is good but it's not gonna give you that smooth, non tearing visuals you'll want in fast motion pictures in sports or movies.

There are TVs that claim to smoothen out sports and fast moving objects but that's mostly like a tv feature gimmick.

That's like people buying a cat6 ethernet cable that can transfer gigabits but if your provider gives you 100mbps, that's all you're gonna get no matter what max speed the cable can do.

  • Does this panel suffer from burn in?

Just bought this TV, previous TV (also Hisense) died after 8 years a few weeks ago. Tried to rationalise going for TCL, but for just watching.. TV, this is fine. Also it was on Boxing day sale so cheaper than TCL at the time.
If there's some content you require that is available in Google TV then don't get this. However, for any standard Australian channels this is great.
Vidaa isn't great for any non-standard content, but for any of the main streamers and freeview, it's good. The remote has 9 buttons for various popular Australian streaming services.
Performance is fine. There were a few TCL with Android TV reviews that said that they slowed down over time.. but do your own research. This is miles ahead of something like Kogan TV, had one of those and the Android interface is so slow.
Also use DLNA stream from NAS and it works fine. Content sharing from Android also works fine - can cast no problem so don't need Android TV/Chromecast for that.

Bad deal considering big w had 75” for $500 recently lol

A deal that Ekos in eternity.. and still, not many care to buy.

Hisense have the worst warranty support.

You can be the 1/10 people that get decent support when it inevitably dies, or you can be the 9/10 people who get abused by their staff or have the tv replaced by an inferior one.

Hisense have had that much trouble with the authorities and found them to be toothless they dare you to take the matter to them.

    • +3

Out of my 2 times I have had to contact support, had a good experience.

Just make sure to diagnose yourself as much as you can, and be as helpful as you can on the phone.
Politeness with support people will get you a long way.. (Or atleast, has for me for Hisense and beyond)

      • Yes Zuelly. My experience was great too (I did have to wait about 30 mins on the call) when I just purchased my brand new Hisense TV. I somehow did something and totally stuffed up the TV. The Hisense person, diagnosed the error with proper questions and on the phone, gave me step by step instructions and waited for me to finish it off and ensured my TV worked again before hanging up. And the TV has been flawless since then. Happy as!

i'm glad you had good ones but again, you guys are sadly outliers.

I've had 5 of them 4 are dead, not including replacement models of which 2 have died.

Most recent experience I had one great staff member who organized a replacement and even admitted that this particular model listed above is causing them more grief than normal due to teh amount of failures.

How they're having failures across the board as they're trying to cram features in on the cheap and not testing or cooling them enough and many times, let alone quality checking.

Theres over 20 people are the moment on product review who are openly challenging hisense at tribunal over refusing to comply with warranty and ACL including many cases like mine.

Mines been resolved, I won but it was nasty.

Above where I said on the latest one I had someone lovely? well two days later I didn't, rang up to find out was going on with my replacement to be told it had been cancelled, abused and hung up on.

Called back again, got a nice staff member who was annoyed that had happened, admitted I was under warranty and covered, didn't know why i'd been treated how I was gave me their complaint line…. their complaint line sent me to their department manager, who by email skipped all accountability, abused me and told me to stop contacting them and dared me to go to tribunal.

          I did.

          Won.

So if i'm a bit bitter, thats my experience in a pill and i'd love to save others from it. As tempted as people can get to put hisense in their homes, we had 2 of them, and loved them, talked their praise and even bought a third.

One failure was, well ok these things happen.

It took a few weeks but was serviced and replaced….. second time….. started a bit of a battle, third got nasty and it just kept repeating.

We were calm, polite and got walked on by them, as soon as we were firm and started talking about our rights we were given "warnings" over being "abusive" while being called very rude words we wouldn't have used on them.

Going to tribunal was absolutely rough and it fills you with anxiety, dread and makes you feel like you are the bad guy.

It's also not like court, theres no this persons time to speak, giving evidence, it was straight up piled on abuse, name calling and shouting down, talking nonesense and slandering character.

Luckily once all this is done they review the evidence for what it was and were puzzled as to why it had even got to that point and went, well heres, the australian consumer law….. here's the evidence you didn't live up to your responsibilities, what are you going to do about this?

We got sorted and the issues got referred to other authorities, but given how many of these they have on going right now they honestly don't care so I can't see them improving.

If I can spare someone else the anxiety of going through it, it's worth it.

We've started replacing the sets with bravia's. No issues so far. One was missing a remote and sony couriered one over express with a hand written apology remote. Now that is service.

          • @typhoonadventure: I think you've had bad luck - yes, I'd be bitter in your shoes. Maybe switch to TCL?

Personally I've got one Hisense (65R7) bought in 2019 as Ozbargains fave tv of back then, have had no issues and quality was top notch for the price.

    • yeah bullshit you have had any experience with them.

  • I think the UI has improved heaps recently. Alot more zippy and response time between switching apps and TV is actually pretty good. The recent Mid tier LG UR series I have is a absolute laggy mess compared to this. Defininly a good buy for this at this price.
