Any buy 2, get 3rd tyre free deals? Asking for a Friend

    • +1

      My friend is also interested.

      • So as my friend too

  • +3

Given the recent deals, this isn't great

    • +2

Especially with their inflated base prices, often cheaper to just call around elsewhere

      • Not always the case. Depends on tyre brand, type, size and spec. My last two sets of 4WD tyres came from BJ deals and were the best available in my region.

With ANY significant tyre purchase you should ring around, not rely on website prices or ads. It's a very competitive industry.

Not everyone has the interest or time, but ideally you'll have researched, have two or three tyre options you're considering, and buy when the price is 'right', not when your tyres are stuffed and you have no choice.

Any recommendations on tyres for a 2013 Lancer? Under 10,000KM per year and just general runaround, not much highway use.

    • +1

      Definitely ask the tire place.
You notice cheap tires on highway use for noise and wet conditions use.
Yokohama are my go-to for this particular deal, budget is up to you

    • There are highway tyres, all terian and off road.
So when you say not much high way, are you saying it is mostly off roading like dirt, mud, sand roads?

If you mean bitumen then that is high way tyre and you should go for the highest milege in a highway tyre which google should help you and maybe spend an hour reviewing the tyre you choose to confirm you are happy with it

Personally I would go with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyre - definitely suits your needs and vehicle

      • Those are way overkill for a car that's being used as an econobox. The fact they didnt even list what size wheel they have shows that they are not a "car person" and hence don't need a performance tyre.

    • Depends what size wheel your lancer has, I had 205/60r16 bridgestone ecopia ep100 and 300 on my old lancer, and they were fine for an econobox, and 235/40r18 bridgestone re003 and michelin ps5 on the new lancer, but wouldnt really recommend the re003 if youre going to push them hard, which I doubt is the case lol.

Saw the thumbnail and wondered when chemist warehouse started selling auto accessories..

    • -2

      Yes

      • Any auto accesories bargain from cw?

  • -5

So the same deal that literally every tyre place runs 4 times per year, and the only time people actually buy tyres? Find me someone who has ever paid full price for four tyres….

    • +2

      I did yesterday

    • I did a few months ago, my tyres don’t go on sale lol

    • What's "full price"? RRP (virtually non-existent)? Normal selling price when manufacturers aren't subsidising retailers? Price given over the phone (usually better than advertised prices)?

  • +1

So not really 4th tyre free.$25 plus disposal fee.
    Typical Bob Jane.
Do they push you into a "wheel alignment"?

    • +1

Yes, they normally will give you for free if you do a hard bargain

    • +1

Do they push you into a "wheel alignment"?

Don't forget the $40 upsell for pure 99% nitrogen

      • +2

I use 78% nitrogen in my tyres.
        Just as good.

        • Actually not just as good, but the cost is generally not worth it.

    • When I replaced a wall punctured tyre, no disposal fee. They did want $80 for a wheel alignment to which I said, no thanks.

      • Hang on.. so getting a wheel alignment is not required after getting new tyres?

        • I just ruined the one tyre In my driveway. Reversed into a brick on the side at walking pace. So I decided not to. It was on the rear too and I have FWD.

Generally, people do recommend when getting 4 new tyres.

  • +1

Buy three get the fourth for $25.

  • +1

Only time to buy a tyre is usually black friday or when you find a special that is an actual 40% or more off per tyre.

Other times just get the $20 tyre from the car yard and until you find a good deal

    • Or when you need one because of a nail

      • That's a simple patch for $20 at many honest tyre places. No need to buy a brand new tyre in many cases.

    • Agree, i got 5 x 265/75R16 Pirelli Scorpion ATR's fitted for $965 in the 2023 BF specials. That price is unheard of and cant get rubbish cheapies fitted for that much.

  • Hankook are really good

  • They really need to think about their branding palette; I thought this was an add for Chemist Warehouse at first.

    • Bob Jane T-Mart had the colour palette first..

  • $1330 for 4 x Yokohama A/T G015 fitted, balanced in a 265/60/R18 … is that good value? Have they been much cheaper?

    • 119S LT or standard version? Seems expensive for the 110H.

      • I am not sure to be honest but on the website there’s a $64 difference between the 119S and 110H across four tyres. Given it’s buy 3 get 4 deal, difference is about $48.

Full price is $1796 vs $1732

What am I missing? How low do these go in price?

Seems the official Yoko sponsored 3/4 deal is finished in my location. That manufacturer deal on Yoko Geolandars usually runs twice a year. Next one should be around Easter.

Price very much depends on location. I bought the 119S (5 of) from BJ Canberra for ~$350/corner about 12 months ago to give you a guide. Covid and oil prices had led to higher tyre prices all round, think they have stabilised/dropped a little since.

I found Tempe Tyres in Sydney and a couple of outlets in Melb to be consistently the lowest. Tempe is much cheaper than BJ "every day" without the Yoko 3/4 deal. Eg currently the 119S is $340 fitted etc and the 110H is $289. They aren't part of 3/4 deals but I use their prices as a guide.

Comments in previous deals might help with alternatives in your location. Search for 'yokohama' and select DEALS under the TYPE dropdown at the top on the next page.

FYI, the 119S has 5/32" deeper tread, thicker sidewalls and weighs ~4kg more than the 110H.
Make sure you get the Yokohama guarantee if you buy them.

@Igaf: Thanks for the extensive reply!

So you paid $350 a tyre, $1400 for four.

The most recent quote I have been given for the 119S is $1347, so approx $336 per tyre - same as Tempe. 110H comes in about $50 cheaper for four.

Just trying to understand the expensive comment.

Thanks for the Guarantee tip! Will definitely follow that up.

            • @Shwibble: I actually bought 5. I called BJ (and a few others) asking for the best total price, like you knew the market leading prices at the time, and they extended the "25% off" manufacturer deal to all 5, with no extra fitting fee on the fourth or fifth (seems to be a new price gouge which I'm sure could be negotiated out over the phone or in person). That clinched it for me. Their prices on 265/60R18 had fluctuated quite drammaticaslly - $50+ in the case of the 119S - in the lead up to my purchase,

One other hint - ask them for the tyre manufacture date. They should be fresh - say 3-4 months. Anything over 6 months and I'd want a further discount.

Bol. They're very good all rounders.

  • Yeah, Bob Jane has highly inflated prices… Not worth it sorry.

    • Generalisations like that suggest a distinct lack of knowledge of how the tyre industry works. Advertised prices are often at best a rough guide (sometimes nigh on meaningless) and competition/location can affect prices markedly.

Anyone with common sense will always pick up the phone and get some solid quotes, ask for a price match etc. My last two sets of tyres were puirchased from BJ after extensive research. Previously I found they werent competitive on the specific models I wanted.

    • @CoreArchitect please don't post nonsense, it doesn't help anyone.

For Bridgestone Potenza 205 45 R17 then Jax, Bridgestone and Bob Jane are all priced right in the same ballpark, within $100 of each other. There are no "highly inflated prices".
