    Will OW PB Mydeal? :/

I just PB at OW Doncaster.

  • Any idea how much replacement filters are for these?

    • Atleast $176.00 through the supplier for a whole set;
      https://ausclimate.com.au/products/zero-pro-5-stage-replacem…

Or you can subscribe for $140 P.U.

      $56.99 at Amazon atm. https://amzn.asia/d/1TlAU8I

      • These are 3rd party

        • +5

Despite what they might claim, there's nothing special about the filters.

I use these 3rd-party filters from Amazon in both mine. HEPA and carbon filters are not anything special these days.

The fact they charge 3x the amount shows they been suckin' the teat of printer manufacturers!

        • I found the 3rd party ones to be fine. The pet filter varies though with the double sided tape either being usable or not. The OEM tape could be difficult to peel the paper off sometimes too but I'm currently using Sello tape for the current 3rd party ones.

Don't worry. From my professional experience, children are plenty filthy enough to get exposure to things that make them sick. Then the parents send them to my workplace to give all the other kids the same opportunities.

As for air filters, I have found them to be helpful both at home on occasions and in hotels. Do you take out your car's air filter?

    • +13

I completely agree, continuous exposure to industrial byproducts of petroleum and formaldehyde in the air we breathe probably has many important health benefits that Big Clean Air are hiding from us.

    • +12

Yeah because man-made airborne forever chemicals, cancer-causing, brain disorder-developing, allergy-exacerbating pollutants existed for thousands of years.

    • +10

You know that over 100 years ago 40 percent of kids died before age 5? And life expectancy was 40?

      • +2

The likes of Edward Jenner and Alexander Fleming did improve those odds though.

        Those chimneys don't clean themselves….

        • Exactly! Drop those 3 year Olds in right now! Modern world is too soft

        • The children yearn for the mines

    • It's not really a problem in Australia where the air is good. Third world countries benefit more

  • Does this thing help get rid of the food smell in the house after cooking? I don't have a window to in my kitchen so looking for a solution for food smell occurs after cooking in my place. Thanks

    • I am yet to test it. Based on this youtube video review it looks like it will. https://youtu.be/cRsuNhvvBag?si=njyIkUtBbihqsd4h

    • Yes it will. Need to position it close to source

      • No.

I've tried loads of purifiers. They don't do much for food smells.

Most come with tiny amounts of carbon which will be very quickly overwhelmed by regular kitchen usage.

Ducted rangehood would still be best if possbile.

This can help, but youre sort of fighting against it trying to rise and having this on the floor draw it down.

    • I have a range hood as well as this exact model places 2 meters from the stove.
I cook the occasional chicken curry and daily steak on the stove and pan. I can tell you it definitely makes a difference, the fan goes full maximum during and after cooking.
What I love the most is that when I come back home into my often hot apartment after work the warm dense air is now lot less dense and lot less smelly. Hope it helps 😊
I have this and the Philips 800i for the bedroom. Can recommend both.
I am in 110m^2 apartment with living room /kitchen probably taking 60m^2.

Just chiming in here, but my gripe is still that a lot of air purifiers are ionizing. This has caused me extreme dry eyes and dry throat and overall unwellness, even when adding a humidifier. Removing said air purifiers eliminated these symptoms. I wish more companies made non-ionizing air purifiers the standard. At least this Winix one's ionizer can be turned off (even if they call it by a trademark cringe name like PlasmaWave).

    • On the winix zero 4 you can turn off the ionizer, it's the middle button

Got this price beat for $314.10 at Bunnings

    • What bunnings was this?

      • Scoresby

        • +1

Cheers! Was able to get it price beat at bunnings. Did you show them the $10 voucher as well? They did it for $305 for me.

  • Maybe a dumb question but do any of these air purifiers also dehumidify? Having issue with room that isn’t used regularly and suffers from high levels of humidity

    • +1

      no

    • -1

marshmall0w2's post above seems to suggest that it does.

      • I doubt it does as it would need a tank or pipe to discharge the water.

      • No. Just think about it for five seconds.

An air purifier simply pushes air through a mechanical filter- it's just a fan. Dehumidifiers require either a compressor or a rechargable dessicant- utterly different and costly mechanisms.

        • -2

Let me explain how ionizing air purifiers can do it. There are two plausible explanations you can find: when you release charged particles, it can rupture the surface of your eyes and disrupt your air pathways. The second is that ozone itself may be toxic and suffocating, not to mention caustic to some people (such as possibly myself). Look up non-ionizing air purifiers.

          • @marshmall0w2: What are you talking about? I'm saying that they are not dehumidifiers.

Also as a totally unrelated subject, modern ionising machines don't produce ozone. Ozone is a specific oxygen molecule- O3 vs regular O2.

            • -1

              @rumblytangara:

modern ionizing machines don't produce ozone

They still do and I don't really trust consumer-grade ionizers to not produce ozone as a byproduct.

    • The answers to your question are superficial and don't account for ionizing (and ozone-producing) air purifiers, which I specifically mentioned. Do note that this Winix model does allow you to turn it off though. Look up non ionizing air purifiers online.

  • Are these useful for filtering out mould spores?

    • consider moving to a different house

    • No. If you have a serious mould problem this is like a bandaid on an arterial cut. Very ineffective.

  • Thank you grabbed one

  • Bought this for $350 from Amazon on a special a few months ago and we all love it. We have 2 dogs and old carpet in the house so this was a must. You can literally smell the freshness in the room when this is on.

  • Can you put this on top of carpet/or is it better to put a plank to elevate the unit?

    • +1

Just put it on whatever floor surface you have.

  • +1

Had this one for three years.
    It's on 24/7.

Replacement filter choice makes a huge difference, despite what others have posted.

I now only use genuine ones from Amazon USA. Search for Winix 1712-0093-00 Air Purifier Replacement Filter T, for HR900, White.

Around $120 a set. Pet hair filter is a waste of time.

And turn off PlasmaWave. It can melt insulation in a/c systems. I'm not joking.

Can clear any smells from wet dog to exotic food. Having a dustless house as well is just a bonus.

Combined with Winix dehumidifier covers you to have a mould and dust free home.
