Hey, basically the title. Looking for a good single/king single bed to downsize my room from a queen bed. There are a lot of options that are pretty overwhelming to me. I don't mind spending more if it means quality and lasting longer/better comfort as my current bed + pillow is giving me neck and back discomfort. Any suggestions? I've seen the usual Koala, Quokka, Sleeping Duck and Ecosa being recommended alongside IKEA but as mentioned, it's pretty overwhelming.
Thanks in advance!
Looking for a Single/King Single Bed + Mattress Combo

Hmm, that is some nice and detailed advice. Just some questions: do you personally own and sleep on IKEA beds? If so, which ones? I heard they squeak a lot or aren't super structurally sound. Also, what are your opinions on the mattress-in-a-box companies like I listed above? Are those beds any good?
Additionally, I've heard being able to fit in standard mattresses in those IKEA beds, I'd rather get a good mattress fitted on those beds rather than IKEA ones. Thanks!
I used the IKEA TRYSIL bed for years and it was great with a metal frame. I believe they're not made anymore which is a shame. I wouldn't be getting a MALM pure particle board one though. That's why you really need to check them out in person.
No issues with the base though I always go for the LONSET premium slats rather than basic LUROY. Their mattresses are very good for the money and they do have toppers too.
I haven't used any mattress in a box companies so cannot comment on them.
Moved recently and bought a whole bedroom set from Beds n Dreams including matching bed, side tables, dresser and tallboy drawers. So if that's something you'd rather get, then head to a homemaker centre and see what's on offer. Opted for the Silentnight Chelsea mattress (Aus made in Melbourne) which you get much cheaper as an add-on and very happy with it.
No explanation? No experience or advice or anything?
This guy posts on here all the time, and is well known across Reddit/Whirlpool
Do you have a bed from him? If so which one? How is it? You can't just post the link without explanation.
@pingas123: Thanks for the shout out guys! And pingas123 If you require any assistance, I literally build mattresses so there's nothing I don't know about them. I may be able to help you find something close to where you live. Mattress options change based on geography. Where do you live?
@Karl from ausbeds: Hey @Karl from ausbeds wow thank you for taking the effort of replying so late in the night. I live in Western Sydney. I was actually thinking of coming down to the showroom at Marrickville around noon to check the place out and the mattresses/beds.
@pingas123: Yeah come down and have a look at what we've made. Martin is there, he's been there for 4 years, so he knows everything there is to know.
I’ve bought from Karl at ausbeds and recommend them. See comment - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/848417
Everyone is different so understanding what type you like such as soft, firm, spring etc would help narrow some of the options.
First step would be physicaly going to a homemaker centre (the ones with multiple furniture stores) and seeing what bed offerings are available at Beds n Dreams, Forty Winks, Snooze and the dozen others. This will also give you a chance to test out whether you want a foam or spring or hybrid mattress.
Second step is then going to IKEA and seeing what they have to offer and whether their more basic designs and prices are more reasonable. Note that IKEA sizes are not standard so you will need to get a mattress and covers from there too.
While you are there, pick up a KLUBBSPORRE pillow and matching TÖCKENFLY cover made especially for it. It is memory foam that supports you well and has cool gel on one side of the hotter nights. Thank me later.
Third and most important step, no matter what you buy, is spend more on a nice thick mattress topper as that will make the biggest difference to your sleep. Some mattresses like Silentnight Chelsea come with one built-in. Highly recommend it.
