Recommendations for Cheaper House Insurance - Regional VIC

So my house + contents insurance has gone up 45% from $187 to $273 or so a month. Summary is:

  • Single Storey House on a slab insured for just under $800k (4 Bed House, Tin Roof, Brick, external double garage which is also brick and a caravan shed at the rear) - This is also the rough value for selling the property as well
  • Contents put at about $120k (probably a bit excessive, could reduce it)
  • $10k in Portables
  • Excess is $600 Basic, $100 Voluntary, $100 for Listed and Unlisted Portables.
  • No Accidental Damage, No Motor Burnout, Not in a Flood Zone or have Flood Coverage
  • Bushfire Area - Yes, according to the shire but in a built-up area on the border of town
  • Location - Warragul, 3820
  • Claims - 1 in 4 years which was rear + side fence due to a storm at the end of last year, about $13k total in the claim
  • Other notes - WFH, so there is generally someone always home. Full Security Camera System (Reolink) with Cloud backup including NAS. Solar (not that apparently makes a difference), Spa, Key Door and Dead Locks, Key Locks on Windows and I think that covers it.

I am currently with Allianz and have been since they were the cheapest since we bought the property. My claim last year probably didn't help the increase, nor did other natural disasters/storms, etc., or the cost of living + expenses to rebuild houses.

So, looking for recommendations on best value and cost for insurance. I have our Cars + Caravan with RACV, could possibly get multi policy with them. Even if we say $50 a month, I would be happy.

TL;DR

House and contents insurance premium jumped 45% from $187 to $273 a month. The property is a single-story, 4-bedroom brick home in a bushfire zone (though in a built-up area), insured for around $800k. Contents are set at $120k plus $10k in portables. I have had one storm-related claim ($13k) in four years. I am currently with Allianz but looking for a cheaper alternative—considering RACV (where I have car and caravan insurance) for a multi-policy discount or any other insurer offering lower rates.

  • Try the cheap ones like AAMI or budget direct

Out of curiosity, clear cookies and cache then perform a quote online with Allianz as a new customer using the same figures but for an address up the road. I wonder what the difference will be?

I was with Allianz and had a small Bingle, my fault. My price went up by $400 next year. Shame I liked them. Moved to RACV, they were cheap until they put up the price. Now with AAMI. Keep moving, keeping customers does not buy you any better price or treatment.

  • Take a day off, get a list of insurance companies, put your info and compare. And always read the whatever document.
