Porting from Boost and Back in Same Mobile No

I am not planning to do this anytime soon but I’m a boost customer for 7 years if not more always did the recharge options.
But since the put up prices by heaps this recharge option is costing to much.
So I’m going to do what i should have done instead of recharging in past and port in and out,
Can someone tell me the process as said I’m not doing it now I just need to know how it’s done and is it possible that changes to this method could stop?

As I am with boost and say it was 6 months from now or 10 months from now and wanted to get back in to boost as a new customer and keep my number what does one do?

My number and wife number are unique well had them so long it’s very easy to remember so porting in and out and getting the numbers back is priority.
What are the steps and methods to this process and does it take a day several days to complete.
I plan to have new boost customers sims prior to porting in and out and as it’s to expensive to recharge with them now I want to be a new customer with them but obviously keeping the number with us.
I’m sure i maybe wrong but am right boost keep your nunber for a certain period ie never goes to anyone else.

Anyway just looking for info on this as never ported in and out and plan to later in year.

  • Really easy - just get a $2 prepaid SIM with another provider on Optus or Vodafone - you can pick these up easily from Woolies / Coles, port over (should be done within a few hours, at most, on a business day), then port back to Boost with the new SIM. Pretty easy and straightforward to do.

I thought the $2 SIMs needed some credit to be able to accept the port SMS messages?!?

      • some do some don't

        • +1

          Which do and which don’t?

    • telstra $2 sim also works

      • But if I’m with boost will that even work as boost are pretty much telstra

        • I've done it multiple times, yes it works.

    • When you used Vodafone did you have bad inability to send text and temporarily no network signal every so often?

I switched from boost to voda for the cheap deal and it is literally the worse carrier i ever had

Considering switching back to boost and just ditching the voda prepaid before expiry

  • we port back and forth every year, use any cheap sim like kogan, libera, belong and port out and port back, I usually use other sim for like a month as they atleast come with one month plan before porting back to boost. also buy boost sims from 3rd party deals here, a lot cheaper than from boost

    • Yea that was the plan deals here as come end of year or close to it recharge is just to much now.
I have heard some port in and out in a day ain’t that to short.
As mentioned I not done porting and I’m told to get a sim obviously not doing this at this time but is there a step by step process as when it comes to doing it is there instructions what steps I go through as buying just a sim is not going to tell you.

  • Get a sim that is on special or free with cashback. Port over, use it for a month, then port back.

I used the $5 Aldi sim, no top up required
Ported out and back in within an hour

  • What new customer deals are there even now? Do they still do that?
Mine is up soon too so I am looking into it. 300 is a bit much.

All I see now is new customers get more data.

  • So when porting not that I’m doing it anytime soon how does one keep there number

    • When you port to another provider you will be given the option to keep your existing number, or receive a new one. Likewise when you port back to Boost you will have the option to keep your existing number.

      • Ok cool I suppose it all becomes clear when it comes time time to do it, not sure if been answered already but when you get a sim from another provider where does the process start, where do you select to port from I take the new sim you get?
Is there somewhere you need to look head to to start the porting process

  • When porting back into Boost, do I need to create a new account? Or is signing in with existing account fine?

    • boost wont allow you to create new account, you might need to call them if you accidentally open 2 accounts, troublesome
