I need a reliable waterproof bag or case for my son's Google Pixel 7 Pro that still allows him to make outgoing calls while in the shower as his disability. I'm reluctant to trust a $10 phone bag with an $800 phone, but if they actually work that's fine.

It's IP68, it works fine in the shower / pool / etc as long as there is no drop damage ;)
He used to wear his Galaxy Watch 3 in the shower but it died when it got wet inside with an IPX8 rating. I'd prefer the extra safety.

Have copped heaps of crap from guys at work over the years …
but keeps my phone dirt free + water free +++ can still use all functions while in plastic bag.+++ very cheap (or free if source around).
[EDIT] : and why the need for a phone in shower ??? does your son spend hours upon hours in shower ???
Are you talking Zip Lock or ordinary sandwich bags? Sounds like a high risk option but if it works for you.
My son can't walk and needs assistance to transfer between commode/shower chair and power wheelchair. As his primary carer, he needs to be able to call me whenever he needs help. I don't know if you can imagine being in bed, on the toilet or in the shower, unable to move from there and unable to make yourself heard (he has very limited voice volume) when you want to get back into your powered wheelchair. There is a lot of anxiety involved if your carer is talking to someone at the other end of the house, is on the toilet themselves or out in the yard, and you can't be heard. I'm getting on, and I could have a fall, a medical episode, and there would be nothing he could do to help himself or me. It's import for him to have access to his phone in all situations that it is physically possible. It's just the two of us, so it just makes sense to look for safe options. If your phone fails in the plastic bag, you can just walk off to find a different option. He can't.
Ordinary sandwich bag - and yes … Have even used around the pool.
In regards to your son … Have you looked at duress alarms/ etc … Many are waterproof … As a mobile phone - doesn't really sound like it properly fits your "intended use".
[EDIT] … hope you also have GRAB rails in shower.
And yes - I do understand… My dad has passed +++ mum is 78 +++ dealt alot with "in home carers" / etc
