My Car Android Unit Keeps Resetting Date and Time

Hi, I am having an issue my car Android unit keeps resetting date and time although I have updated unit to latest Android operating system, it is 1.5 years old.

Is there something I can troubleshoot to fix the issue ?

Thx

Use Android auto/Apple carplay and ignore it?

The joys of buying cheap head-units…

  • I see are you saying because of its poor quality this is why it is keeps resetting ?

  • connect to your home wifi and update the firmware

  • I did and kindly check my below quote :

it needs continuous power to keep the clock running, have you connected both the battery and ACC wires correctly?

What did actual product support staff, or their online trouble shooting suggest for this prudent investment in automotive infrastructure?

    • Common sense line of thought……. hahahahahahah.
      Wishful thinking of late.

  • All devices will have some sort of small battery inside to keep the time, date, and settings. Perhaps it has run flat.

Same thing applies to computer motherboards, my dash cam, laptops, etc.

In car units often dont have an internal battery. They use the car battery. Its possible the always on power and accessory power leads are swapped.

    • Specifically
With car radios (and hence car plays) there is usually a "hot wire" that connects to a continuosly live wire.i.e direct to battery.
Then there is another wire that connects to the accessories power which switches the unit on when the ignition is switched on.

OP likely hasnt connected the hot wire properly

  • it needs continuous power to keep the clock running
    It makes sense

The shop where I purchased the device they installed it for me

    • resetting date and time

does this happen from the day 1? if so ACC and battery wires are not connected correctly

      • No didn't happen from the day 1 and even now when I correct the date and time its work for 2 days and third day gets resetted

        • What does it reset too?

I have a chesp android unit and i cannot get it to stay on daylight savings time. Some glitch in it. Tried setting to different regions, setting the time to manual and everything else i could think of and it will almost always revert back to non daylight savings time the next time the car is used.

          • @Euphemistic: I didn't think about setting it to daylight saving yet ,,,,,I am not aware of other resetting apart from date and time

        • It looks like there is a capacitor to keep time for a shorter time and keep time for 2 days. The clock mainly could be powered with a CR2032 cell (which has a limited life time) or something like that without using car battery at all.
can you remember when this issue started after installation ?

          • @bazingaa:

can you remember when this issue started after installation ?

I would say six months after installation

            • @zillah: I can think of two reasons. Better to get it checked with someone with electronics knowledge if you can't do further troubleshooting by yourself.

              1. All wiring is correct and your car battery is failing, there is a cutoff circuit in the unit to check the car battery voltage to stop over draining and it gets triggered now due to low battery voltage.

              2. There is a small battery inside the unit to keep the clock, and the unit doesn't depend on the car battery to keep time when the car is off. This battery has failed now.

BTW, can you config the unit to update time from GPS, if it has a GPS unit connected from navigation?

              • @bazingaa: Thank you very much bazingaa I will take it to the shop again to double check wiring and replace small battery if it is flat

BTW, can you config the unit to update time from GPS, if it has a GPS unit connected from navigation?

No it doesn't have GPS via navigation ,,,,,as I am using google map when I connect the unit to my phone via the hot spot

You reminded me with the computer motherboards which I totally forgot about it that last time I replaced one of its battery may e 15 years ago (when BOIS used to lose its configuration),,,,,I might need to go back to the shop and ask them

When quoting use a single ">" symbol with a soace after. Then when youre quote is completed leave a blank line before the next text.

I see thx for the tip learnt something new

Also there is a reply button under all comments, use that to reply instead as it gets confusing.

  • There should be a setting to set the clock to GPS time.
Check your country/zone is correct too.

  • Is there an inline fuse on the always on live wire to battery?
    And/or is that connection solid
It sounds like a physical problem, not software

    • Thx Protractor I will check that

It sounds like a physical problem, not software

I guess battery would be considered a physical problem wouldn't be ?

      • Rule out the obvious first. eg wiring inwards.
Because it could be the first point of failure right through to the unit itself or anything in between, hence eliminating the battery wire that supplies the +V to the unit, has issues.

        • Noted thanks for your help
