Just beware that the display is very simple, :) or % Unlike its bigger brother

    • +1

that should be safe for travelling abroad right?

      • +1

27500mah is the most you can take on near every airline.

        • +5

More specifically 100Wh, since I recently found a few Xiaomi portable chargers that use 7.4V for the battery voltage calcs.

          • @ATangk: Isn't this thing 240Wh? Or did I get stuff up the maths?

            • +3

@clx: Watt-hours is voltage of the batteries multiplied by the amp hours of the battery. These batteries are 12 amp hours as indicated by the title and description, and while it doesn't specify it, the batteries in these are almost always 3.7 volts, so the result is 44Wh.

You may have accidentally thought the "20 volts" in the description is related to the capacity, but it is actually the max voltage that can come out of the usb ports. The voltage of the batteries is basically never a selling point, since they all use 3.7 volts unless they are being wierd like those Xiaomi models

              • @meeowth: Ah that makes sense. Thanks. Hopefully the device has 3.7V marked on it to avoid a debate with airport security

                • +3

@clx: Oh, these UGREENs with the screen just straight-up have the watt-hours printed on the back, no math needed!

Specifically, this one has "Battery Rated Energy: 44.4Wh (14.8V 3000mAh)" printed on the back, which I'm sure has never confused anyone who wondered why their 12000mAh power bank says it's only 3000mAh.

      • max is 20000mah so should be fine

    • -1

That display looks very gimmicky though

      • +6

It helps diagnose whether a cable is defective or not. Was changing a friend's Christmas present and found the cable we were using wasn't outputting any charge.

  • -7

This Cygnett 19Ah one looks like significantly better value for about the same price

    • +6

Hard to compare, since Cygnett doesn't specify which charging protocols it does.

The UGREEN on the other hand does:

      PD3.0/PD2.0, PPS, QC3.0/QC2.0, FCP/AFC, APPLE 5V2.4A, BC1.2, Galaxy Super Fast Charging 2.0 (45W)

      • -5

It's pretty obvious that 100w USB C charging dictates a minimum of USB PD 2.0

50 percent more capacity for the same price is much more useful to most people than supporting older/niche protocols that are no longer relevant (looking at that 12w Apple 'standard' here.)

        No need to neg.

        • +3

I didn't neg you. I was just providing additional information.

The Cygnett is still decent if you just need a basic power bank (ie. for laptop that doesn't require specific protocol).

    • Curious about the weight of that one. I wanted a light one some are nearly half a kilo

    • +1

      But no cute little face!

  • +2

    If only 25,000mah…

  • Can't see the price listed as $59.99 anywhere? Lists as $79.99 to me?

      • +3

Duh, apologies! My brain has overheated apparently :)

  • +2

I read that as Nexplode. Not what you want with a battery bank

    • +3

      Its not a Heymix

  • Do these hold their charge well? Never owned a portable power bank. If I charge it up and chuck it in my car/bag and forget about it, would it be good to use in an emergency in say 6 months?

    • +1

Yeah will be fine though for long term storage best to leave at 60 to 70 percent only

    • -1

Never owned a portable power bank

Are there non portable power banks?!

      • +5

I know you are trying to be funny - but that's kinda what a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) is!

        • I've never seen anyone refer to an ups as a "power bank". By your account even a Tesla powerwall is a power bank.

  • Does anyone have any good solid recommendations for a 10k powerbank? I was looking at the Anker Nano with the build it USB-C cable and 2 USB-C outputs, but it has mixed reviews. This is supposed to be really good also - https://www.costco.com.au/Electronics/Mobile-Phones/Mobile-A…

    • +1

What do you want from it? Light weight, faster changing? Because a mi ultra 3 10k is great value and portable while being small. A nitecore nb10000 gen 3 is for if you want to go extra for weight savings, etc…

      • Thank you so much! I did not know Xiaomi did small powerbanks like that. That one looks amazing and would almost be perfect if it didn't waste a port on Micro USB. The nitecore looks super slick! Great recommendations, thank you!!

  • +1

Unlike NOVOO, I've not had Ugreen fail on me yet when it comes to power banks and chargers.

    • +1

Which novoo battery or charger have failed you? I recently bought the compact 100w charger from them

  • It's a shame that these things don't have a separate 'In' port. It would be nice to be able feed it power and pass-through power to a laptop.

    • +2

Xiaomi Zmi No.20 does pass-through charging very well. It's a documented feature of this power bank - there are some others with this feature too. These won't overcharge/cycle the battery when you use them in this mode.

For smaller loads like phones it almost doesn't heat up. If you look at a teardown of this, you'll see that the heat dissapation design of this is really good. It's remarkably cool even at higher loads. Since it can do 210W output it's probably built to be able to handle that.

Worth pointing out that 12,000mAh is extremely small for a 100W battery, e.g. if you take a 3.7V standard for cells likely used in this sort of battery, then the capacity is just a bit above 40Wh, which wouldn't be enough to charge a Macbook Air even once (around 49 Wh, from memory).

If you just want something to charge a phone with, get a regular 10,000mAh battery which always pop up for less than $20 (e.g. see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/870745), otherwise, if you want something to charge your laptop, needs to be at least 20,000mAh+.

    • +1

Yeah this powerbank's specs seems weird, normally you'd only want 100W charging for bigger devices like a laptop, but a 12,000mAh powerbank is miniscule — it will hardly even charge up half the battery capacity of a 14-inch laptop. I just don't see the point at all, especially for the premium price. And it's definitely a very chunky fella at 309g.

UGREEN seems to be taking the piss with all these pointless variations on their powerbanks.

It's wild that this deal has gotten 65+ upvotes.

      • +1

Yeah i got a 20000mAh 45w iniu recently and honestly once it hits that threshold for laptop charging I don't really understand what benefit comes from a higher power rating. Anything short of a gaming laptop will gain charge on 45w, and the capacity is going to be what limits utility.

At least that's my view. Being able to rapid charge a small capacity is pretty useless.

    • +1

      Probably not even real 100w.

Lots of these devices are only designed to deliver high power for a few minutes, and then throttle back to prevent overheating.

  • -5

Why would someone prefer this over a charger from temu which could be half the cost?

I understand the delivery from temu takes longer but is there any other reason?

    • +4

Some people like quality and reputation.

      • Ah ok

        • +4

Not all battery banks actually meet there spec. Even if there are batteries in it of the size it states there can be effeciency losses (sometimes up to a third) as well as output rates not being sustained due to heat or throttling something can state 100W output but only sustain it for minutes before throttling down to say 65W etc.

          • +1

@DuckWearingTopHat: So your saying UGREEN might not have efficiency losses whereas temu battery might?
            This is interesting 🤔

            • @chintu123: Varies model by model. ALL batteries have efficiency losses as they step up and down voltages that's just physics. But some are better than others. And on average I'd be willing to put money on known brands (Anker and UGreen especially) over unknown Temu.

    • Yea seen alot of them Ugreen on Temu but not sure they are legit just like heaps of fake xiaomi powerbanks

  • +1

I picked one up thanks op perfect for crusing when my wife and i need a quick phone charge

  • Would this be suitable for an AirMini CPAP machine? Or perhaps its big brother referenced above: https://www.amazon.com.au/UGREEN-Charging-Portable-Charger-B…

I must admit the references to wH, watts and volts spins my head.

  • +1

Very nice design and over a night delivered! Thanks OP.
