Not deliverable to this address… purchased before 8 times.

amazon is a metropolitan delivery service, They can't make money delivering to us "regional" scum 70km from the GPO.

      • +2

wonder if their system works out australia post or private driver and areas covered and item sizes and a delivery time. Some areas they might just not be able to meet their delivery times and private drivers might live in metro areas so aren’t going to deliver regions vs australia post but australia post charge on volume or weight so not viable in some areas.

        • +4

everything was delivered on time and reliably until mid 2023. they are just after the cash as all retailers are, so f**k regional people.

          • @mudguppy1: I was in the first round of banned postcodes, and the general sentiment here was, "that's what you get for living in the middle of nowhere". Not so much now, that everybody else has the same issue.

          • @mudguppy1: there is a reason regional real-estate is cheaper than city and inner city is more expensive than metro, and cost to deliver some services cost more so they might be economically viable. At least now with star link regional people have more internet options if poor mobile coverage, but will probably complain about cost vs internet on a phone plan.

yeh amazon are a bunch of c#$@s. Why do we even pay for prime if they refuse to deliver a bunch of items to us (ive come across many over the years). If it costs more to send to us, at least give us the option to pay the difference.

    • -5

Because prime video alone is worth the money, delivery is a bonus. Stop paying for prime if youre so unhappy with them i dont think they will care

      • +3

"It doesnt affect me, so why should I care"

Its an issue whether you want to admit it or not. They could add a surcharge for non-metro areas if thats what they need to do, but they dont. If they want to operate in australia, they shouldnt be excluding a large percentage of the population.

Counter argument. If you choose to live in cheaper rural areas you shouldn’t expect access to the same services.

@PainToad: Thats the thing though, not every city outside of the 8 capitals are rural… They cant even do the largest city in WA outside of Perth.

            • @DanielP2: It’s WA. It’s literally on the other side of the continent that most people live. Shipping there would be expensive, especially outside the capital.

If you’re talking about Bunbury, it might be the a large city by WA standards, but it certainly isn’t by national standards.

              https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_in_Australia_…

              • @PainToad: As I said previously, I am not even asking for them to do this for free. We have been paying extra for postage on everything we get shipped here, thats just how it is. My issue is that they refuse to ship here. They need to give us the option to pay a surcharge for "remote" shipping, but they do not.

This isnt the end of the world when its just paper towel I cant purchase, but this happens with a lot of items. One of the more annoying was a PSU I needed which at the time was sold out everywhere besides Amazon. I was lucky as at the time the loophole where we could log out of our account and add the item to our cart still worked.

I get it, it doesnt affect you so you have no issue with other people missing out, but is it so unreasonable that I want the option to purchase from the biggest online retailer even if it costs me a little more on postage?

                • @DanielP2: I understand it sucks. But at the end of the day they are a business and have clearly done the maths and decided it’s just not worth providing their services to certain areas.

As for charging more, my guess is they’ve decided simply not shipping to certain places will get less bad press than charging more. That’s their decision to make.

it doesnt affect you so you have no issue with other people missing out

Me having an issue or not having an issue won’t change anything.

        • yep and more aldi stores in regions and in tassie, why no aldi in tassie and aldi in NT.

    • I have cancelled prime and have saved a lot of money as i am not buying "may be i will use it one day" item anymore.

    Thanks OP!

Thanks op, cancelled my last SS which ended up being $26 from roughly about this price 4-5 yrs ago when I initially setup the SS. Is there an option to cancel if prices change? So it doesn't slowly creep up to almost $30 again?

  • +1

camelcamelcamel indicates $14.40 is the long term normal price

Its only been more expensive fairly recently

  • +1

That's Prime cancelled. Absolutely no use without rural delivery.

    • +1

Your location says Brisbane. I'm also Brisbane and it shows as available for me.

  • Why if something goes half price its always guaranteed to be sold out straight away on amazon like i really dont get why they dont stock more !

    • half price is one of those things …offered 1/2 price for a fitness watch on facebook, guy went crazy, called me hubris …i said you are hubris, who will pay full price which you are asking with no warranty or return …some people are disconnected from market forces if they expect to move stuff ar close to retail …. except maybe apple who manage it.

IMHO the only one worth buying is the double length in different packages.
Right now the " VIVA Paper Towel Double Length Paper Towels 12 Count " - https://www.amazon.com.au/Viva-Double-Length-Paper-Towel-dp-… is even on 10% discount (S&S).
It makes it $1.124 per a single length - slightly higher than $1.08 (S&S) at the post.

Maybe if the regional customers order a year of supply of the items they need then Amazon is more likely to bother to deliver them.
We don't know their algorithm for refusing delivery.

Apparently the drop feed purchases where the prime members located in the larger cities clearly save on both - price and delivery aren't supported for the regional prime members because it's hard to even cover the delivery of 12 towels at a distance of 80 kilometers for the driver who is going to travel 160 kilometers - to the delivery address and back.
Only the petrol for the trip will cost a double the cost of the item.

However we have to keep bringing up the discussion about the disadvantaged position Amazon is placing their regional prime customers.

    • i think it’s the delivery people might live in city area, have noticed many seem to be indian, and probably live in the city and who wants to drive to the amazon depot, pick stuff up and then do 100km round trip to deliver some paper towel or tube of toothpaste to customer, the petrol for 100kms is $18 alone, driver pays for petrol, amazon pays driver who needs to cover petrol and their time …. do the maths ….. it’s why people use prime for delivery, it’s cheaper than driving to get stuff yourself and your only costs are petrol and your time …the drivers need to be paid, and the amazon seller needs to be paid.

  • I find that bulk buying at a discount sometimes can lead to more consumption and leading to more wastage which then cancels out potential savings 🤪.
