Facebook Marketplace - Little to No Views - Algorithm Issues?

I sell most of my stuff in NZ on FB Marketplace - currently in Adelaide on holiday, going to Melbourne shortly.

For some reason all my marketplace listings are only getting a few views (around 1 view a day if I'm lucky), I've done a bit of research online and some people purport to be "shadow banned" or deprioritised by Meta's Marketplace search algorithm…does anybody have experience with this sort of thing and know how to improve views?

My parents are moving so hoping to offload a bunch of larger items that can't really be sold on eBay…alternatively is Gumtree any good? I haven't had much success personally, seems like a very dry marketplace.

Thanks in advance.

    What item is it?
I listed an esky a few days it’s gotten nearly 3k views and no one has messaged me.
    Am I shadow banned?

Hi Wiardo, is this still available?

      • It’s a big esky I hope it fits in your car.

My courier drives a RAM1500. He will accidentally send you too much money and prove it with a screen capture.

@MS Paint: thanks got the screen capture, but it doesn't match my bank statement,

@Wiadro: MS Paint has ended this conversation.

    • Two of the items are popular smart phones that were getting me a lot of views in Auckland. I assumed I would get similar action here in Adelaide (although slightly smaller population). Perhaps it's due to the sprawling nature of Adelaide population vs Auckland since Marketplace limits by search area

  • You can pay to get more views.

    • Yeah I tried the boost, not really worth it though. I guess it ends up on people's FB feeds rather than organic searches, which means a less qualified buyer probably. Plus back in Auckland I had great views without needing to boost.

  • I get more success on local buy, swap and sell Facebook group marketplaces than just the generic marketplace.

    • Thanks, I'll try cross-posting there.

  • How long has it been since you listed

    • About a week

  • Tags/keywords in the title and description help.

    • Yes, I always list with description and a blurb with relevant keywords. Good titles & photos as well. I flip on the regular so not my first rodeo

  • You will get much better response if you list it for free.

  • Sometimes if you add too many tags for different topics it can get that way. Or if your listing description has too many different words i feel it can get that way at times. Just my observations and they seem to change the algorithms a lot

    whats ya rating

    • I have 66 reviews and 4.9 stars

  • Facebook algorithms seem a bit random. I sell a bit there. Can get responses within minutes, or sometimes it will be silent for a couple of weeks then get a couple of new hits within hours of each other.

I always use a decription, aim to hit keywords in the title and description fully spelt out and decent photos.

Their search algorithm sucks too. Always puts up random things it thinks are what I'm searching for.

  • If you are outside the country you are selling in (and I'm not clear if you are or not from your post) facebook will warn of a "potential scam".

Assuming its not that, I have had the experience of my stuff getting no action, then I sell what might be a popular item (switch games in my case) and suddenly my other entries also get attention. Perhaps it does boost you depending on what you sell?

    • Ah perhaps it is that. As my Facebook account will be New Zealand based. I'm going to make an AU account tonight and see if that helps. Yes I think you're right, certain ultra popular items will get you a lot of views, maybe boosting the rest…

  • Wait, so you live here but list in New Zealand?

    • No, I'm here on holiday/visiting family. I usually list in New Zealand, where I live.

      • Ah I understand. It's hard to believe that they would deprioritise your ads just because you're temporarily logging in from another country, though. Maybe they are items that people just aren't looking for right now - e.g. furniture?

        • Yeah idk, people report all sorts of weird stuff online. It's like a black box.
I'm mainly selling electronics that are pretty popular back in NZ. Might just be the time of year, not many people looking to buy during the holidays and after spending big over Xmas etc…

  • currently in Adelaide on holiday, going to Melbourne shortly.

Check this out, when you're in Melbourne 😊

selling 1 pallet of mi goreng for $2088,
144 boxes per pallet, a box containing 40 mi goreng noodles.
    1 box costs $14.50.
MINIMUM ORDER: 60 BOXES FOR $870

Lol is that a good deal?

      • 40 packets = $14.50 ,
        ie. 1 packet = $0.3625

        It's not bad actually ☺

        However, " minimum order is 60 boxes for $870 " !
