    Early bird pricing

Nana is available for pre-order now at a special early bird price of $275 AUD (regularly $350 - $399 AUD). This is a limited-time offer, so don't miss out on your chance to get the latest and greatest in reusable film cameras.

maybe remove this from the product description?

    • sorry did removed it have not update on the listing , now have done so thanks!

  • -4

    what a piece of junk

    • -3

OOooo you shot with this before? mind giving us actual feedback ? just telling general comments like this is not exactly helpful :D

  • Gotta drive 3 hours to develop it

  • +1

    Kodak has entered the chat

    • -4

      Who is Kodak?

  • From the specs on the website, aperture is fixed at f/11 and shutter speed is fixed at 1/125 so the only thing to control exposure is the sensitivity of the film and whatever magic happens in the dark room?

    • +1

Yup pretty much , that is why we recommend at least 400 ISO film , but we do have a built in flash (which works ok 2-3 meter only). From our experience a lot of new user, often underexpose their film, so if you got 800 iso film go for it, in the lab , we often can dial it down by adjusting the density on the scanner.

      • Thanks, haven't used film apart from disposables before. Too used to having lots of control.

        • agree, sometime keeping things simple can be quite beneficial , just frame and shoot

    • Correct!

  • +4

    I like FilmNeverDie
I've been a customer since you were still operating from your garage in Parkville.
However I struggle to convince myself how the Nana is almost $250 better than something like the longweekend disposable camera.

  • FilmNeverDie announces Nana, a motorised simple camera https://kosmofoto.com/2023/10/filmneverdie-announces-nana-a-…

    • -1

Yup been a journey, from design to , pre-order to kickstarter , to battling some negativity people have about this, but all for the better :D

      • Keep doing. Well done.

  • +5

Sorry, I don't enjoy being harsh, but this is rubbish value. You can spend less and pick up a Canon AE-1 and have a far better experience.

Lens: 31mm f/11 fixed lens, 1 element lens
    Shutter: 1/125s

    • I agree that Canon AE-1 will give you a better control better value in the long run.

I think I probably should said, this camera is not for everyone if you been in the film game for a while , this probably is not for you.

But you been tired of battling ebay / Facebook market place with warranty issues, sick of getting second hand camera that end of not working and wants a bit of certainty then this camera give you 2 years warranty :D

  • Thanks and Good question, so are you referring to the Long Weekend - 35mm Film Camera - which is reusable - manual camera? or just a disposable camera (one use ?)

    I will address both.

Vs Long Weekend - 35mm Film Camera

This camera is like our first film camera we made the Niji camera we sell them for about $60 , its pretty much a very simple manual plastic camera, that you need to manually wind on and rewind the film, which we find a lot of new customer struggles.

Our version is motorised, much nicer metal body and slightly better optics, if winding on and off is not a problem for you and you don't mind using a more plastic camera not a problem, I believe the result is still comparable.

But I highly recommend you coming in and test dry and pick one up to see and feel for yourself :D.

With all that , if you been a customer for a long time, I am guessing you probably have a few good cameras? then this might not be the right camera for you, as this is mainly aim for beginner that wants a new instead of a used one and wants one that is better quality.

We do sell nicer used 35mm camera like the MJU but getting them is always like getting a ticking time bomb not sure when it will fail, thought we do offer 6 months warranty to cover them.

    Vs any disposable camera

So the Nana is a reusable camera, instead of a single use camera, with all the above improve functionality .

having said that disposable camera is also very easy to use with no need to worry about winding on and winding off.

the main different is you will be saving a few coins just buying films instead of getting a whole single use camera again and again .

    hope these make sense.

    • Hey thanks for a solid explanation. It doesn't make me wanna buy the Nana but I'll keep buying films from you guys so you could spend that money on R&D to make something like a Rollei 35AF but with reasonable mark up.
      Free idea.

      • Thanks !! We will promise to keep doing better :D

It’s tricky to see the value here when there are so many other cameras of comparable or better value (including new) at the same or similar price point. It does look sort of like a mini contax T2 which is cool though.

    Some context:
    https://petapixel.com/2024/12/04/digging-into-the-complaints…

Some quick examples of arguably comparable new cameras for less:
    Lomo Apparat
    Ektar H35N (Half frame)
    Agfaphoto analogue
    KodakM35/38
    Disposable cameras

    • +1

This is worth reading for any potential buyers.

Also, you can probably pick up a used point-and-shoot for around the same price that'll be better optically and give some new life to old tech. No shortage of mint or near-mint condition examples of this from Japan on eBay.

      • Last time I bought a used PaS camera, the shutter jammed 2 shots in and camera repair companies were asking $300+ to repair it (more than the cost of the camera)
If I ever buy film cameras again, I'm not buying used. Warranty is a must for me.

        • +1

I feel you pain… 180 days warranty for used camera and 2 years on new camera like Nana from us.

      • -1

Agree that this camera is not for everyone, agree that a lot of used point and shoot have better optics too, but guess what maybe in a few more years we can bring in a better lens, innovation one step at a time :D

      • Holy moly, the comments section in that Petapixel article is absolute dumpster fire.

        • -2

yeah look a particular competitor we think is behind this …

    • -1

Thanks , yup there are few different options out there:

But of them do not have a nice metal body…. hehe I can feel a few people going to jump on this soon.

Motorised too but yes agree there are a lot of manual one out there.

  • Is it still alive businesses to process and print films as it was in the past?

    • Yes that is right, and we have a shop in the CBD!

  • -1

    Thanks.

  • +3

I can buy like 5 name brand point and shoots (Canon Autoboy, Nikon L35-series, Minolta AF-C/Hi-Matic etc) with a better lens, actual ISO support and probably better metering and still have $100 in my back pocket for film

    No thanks

    • -1

      Are you a bot?

      • That's for me to know and for you to find out

        • haha just make you get in on the pro image $15.50 a roll film deal now :D

  • +1

$299 for a camera with a fixed-focus, single-element lens, likely made of plastic. No adjustable aperture, single-speed shutter, and a mostly plastic body?
Is making hipster money really this simple?

    • -1

metal body.. baby metal body… , single element aspherical lens not seen in the market before, omg I feel like I am a resounding gong… gong…

      • Metal body or "Build: Sturdy metal front casing" directly from your website - what is the discrepancy here?

A metal front casing suggests pressed sheet metal fascia, while a metal body implies a cast alloy construction for the actual camera body. So, which one is it?

        • sorry I should have been clearer, is a cast alloy construction for the actual camera body.

      • I think the question was is the lens plastic? Which I am assuming the answer is yes

  • +1

why is your one 8x more expensive than this:

    https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005008042108293.html?

    • METAL BODY! ASPHERICAL PLASTIC LENS!

      • sorry if I have offended you , probably should not have say I am gong , which as a product manager I probably need to admit I will be a gong after all, but not meaning to offend you.

  • yeah have to neg this one, this is Ozbargain, not OzAdvertising, and you can get film cameras from known brands much cheaper.

its too expensive for a newbie, and enthusiasts would probably have something better/vintage.

    • -1

Like it haha Ozbargain not OzAdvertising, good one

      • with that in mind I remove the "deal" , until next time, will bring a better bargain to the table! thanks all.

    • +1

lol daym… so they basically reskined the camera and selling for 8x markup…

      • not that easy , often people like to pull you down, a reskin probably too harsh , new metal body and new aspherical lens, which does require a decent amount of R&D

        • +1

cmon mate, you're not fooling anyone (espicially not the people on OzB). new metal body = 1 day of CAD work to house the internals of an EXISTING camera. new aspherical lens… sounds good but what R&D did you actually do? did you build it from scratch or did you find another off the shelf supplier?

you make it sound like you're apple with your "R&D" and charging Apple markups lol

if you sell this for $99, you'd probably get more bites.

          • @Jaduqimon: Lens is from scratch not off the shelf product.

Aspiring to be Apple good thing or not?

  • Still a plastic lens. The end result is the same regardless of the material of the body…

    • yup still a plastic lens, our plastic lens is not those crazy high reflection point plastic, but some plastic lens , like the one use in Polaroid I2 is probably sharper or on par with glass lens, I believe they use EP3500 you can see here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cw90i55t9G0/

  • First off, good work on bringing a new 35mm camera to life. Looks nice, glad to see it in metal too.

I don't understand though who this is for? Is it targeted for people who just want to carry around a 35mm camera to be quirky or cool or something?

The fixed lens is fine, 31mm a bit of an odd duck but no problem but then a fixed aperture and a fixed shutter speed? Its a one trick pony, it reminds me of a Rollei 35 I had, beautiful little machine, the photos it produced were great but man it was an absolute pain to use with scale focusing and all the fiddling that I never actually used it. To shoot with this everything has to be right, its like a special occasion camera. With the cost of film and the pain of using it, you have to sort of know what you're doing to get anything out of it, but people who know what they are doing won't buy it because of its limitations.

Why not plastic body it and throw in an adjustable shutter speed and charge the same?

I accept that there isn't anything old school, off the shelf with a warranty for $299, but considering what this could do you could go out and by any 35mm by Lomo for half the price, get a Sardinia and it'll give you two shutter speeds. $299 would get you a very decent Olympus Mju/Stylus or you could just drop half that on an Espio or something.

As an amateur photographer, I can't see how this camera at this price point makes any sense.
Pretty much no capabilities - fixed everything, with plastic lens - the PQ will be terrible.
The camera is (subjectively) ugly. Metal body is an overikill for such camera. Make it all plastic, sell for $49. That would make sense.
Or make it more "retro" for someone who just wants to show off.
Otherwise, if anyone wants to get to film photography, please learn the basics of aperture and shutter speed. Any 8 year old can learn that. If not, why bother with film? Stay with phone :-)
Plenty of second hand film cameras below this price point that will be way more useful for someone who wants to enter film photography.
Plenty of similar cameras to this one for way lower price.
