SOLVED - How Do I Contact My Neighbour?

I live in a subdivided land.

No body corporate (less than 3 units in VIC)

I own the rear property.

Neighbour owns the front property.

Neighbour is also the previous owner of my current property. Name was shown on the settlement doc but no contact details.

Front property is currently leased.

Property manager of front property used to also manage my investment property that I have sold (I know the agent).

I just want to talk to the neighbour about some modifications/maintenance which may affect the common property/area (driveway).

What's the best way to contact the neighbour?

  1. Contact the agent (I did in the past, but no response, and I'm not sure if the agent is even following up as maybe its outside their obligations)
  2. Any other method??

I have stumbled the neighbour few times, he seems like a nice a guy and even asked me how the property is doing after he sold the property to me. I have also seen his dad few times doing some random maintenance to the front property. It's just that I never remembered to ask them to swap details.

UPDATE:
Since i bought the rear property from him, his mailing address is mentioned on the Section32. It's an address in VIC so I might try just dropping a letter in his mailbox!

Ask the tenant if they have the owners number?

    • +1

I wouldn't give contact details to the tenant, it's why we pay for a REA

    • Tenant only has the REA number which I already do anyway.

    Try searching Facebook.

I did mention above. Contacting the property manager got no response.

I was genuinely wondering whether it is outside their obligation.

and I said, get a definitive yes or no. No response is neither. You're the one who should follow that up.And to be frank, before you seek plan B on a forum.

"I was genuinely wondering whether it is outside their obligation." Something that proper follow through communication would have resolved by now.

I did follow up. Last inquiry was few months ago for unrelated things.

Maybe be less judgemental next time.

But seriously, are you okay? Because you seemed very negative just because someone is asking a question.

I have contacted our Local Council, especially when it involves safety and hygiene.
How about the Conveyancer who did the sale of land for you?

    • Conveyancer only has contact of the lawyer of the seller.

I suppose I could try that too to see if they have any info.

Thanks for pointing me out this direction!

I found that in the section32, his mailing address is listed.

      I will try that instead!

You can pay for a title search

    • Oh? Does the title search show the contact details of the owner? I didn't know that. I thought it only shows the name.

      • +1

        It will show their address

        • Their mailing address i suppose?

So maybe i can try that and send a letter/drop a mail in his mailbox if he is still living in VIC.

          Thanks!

          • @meong: Yes mailing address

          • -1

@meong: If you know their name, you can head down to the library and go through a copy of the electoral role which will provide address details too

            • @Dollar General: I didn't know such method exists! But his name is a generic anglo name…

Anyway, i have found a solution… Ill update above

  • I have stumbled the neighbour few times
I have also seen his dad few times doing some random maintenance to the front property.

Odds are they’ll be around again in the near future maybe. Just ask their tenants(your neighbours) to pass on your details to them..
Unless what you want to talk to them about is a bit more urgent ofcos.

    • +1

Not that urgent but i'm in a few discussions with some builders regarding modifications of my property and suggested that i speak to my neighbour as just in case there are objections.

But yeah, hopefully i bump into him again soon.

Council will give you a name and address if the fence is in need of repair. The property manager may not be comfortable handing out the owners contact details, give them your details to pass on.

    • Yup, i did pass it onto to them with that wording basically saying that I'm happy to work with the owner directly, here are my details, etc.
