    SIM Nano-SIM + Nano-SIM

    Dual physical Sim, nice

    NO esim

    • Not 5G.

  • How's this compare to the G54?

    • +2

Funny i got this for the folks even for them it was too slow and swapped to g54, much more useable

      • +1

What do you mean by swapped, were you able to exchange it at JB?

        • +1

Good question, was wondering the same?

    • This has two physical SIM. G54 only physical one + esim and memory card slot. So, if you need more than one physical sim, this is more useful unless you go esim on G54.
      or another phone again.

      • +1

        This has two physical SIM.

And it will use a micro-SD in addition to the two nano-SIMs, assuming it's the same as my G14 that I bought from JB some 10 months ago. The drawer has cutouts for all three cards.

        • How have you found the phone?
Does it have 4MB with 4MB "Boost"?

          • +1

@carrawa: I'm very happy with it, but all my previous phones had at most 1GB memory, and I never had memory problems with those.

I never allow apps on my phone which hog memory, which is moderately easy as I have zero interest in "social media". And I dislike apps with unnecessary "run at startup" permission, so my memory usage is minimal.

I particularly like the "raise to wake" feature, which automatically turns on the screen (but doesn't unlock it) whenever I lift the phone. I've had several phones become unusable because their power button broke after a couple of years, so this one should last a lot longer as I rarely need to use the power button. I don't use the volume buttons either, I found a "sound tile" app that brings up the volume controls.

I'm particularly impressed by the resolution of the display. I can clearly read text when it's only 1mm tall on the display (required by some websites that aren't well-designed).

If it had wireless charging, it'd be the perfect phone for me. ESIM would have been nice on my recent overseas holiday, but you won't find ESIM in a phone this cheap.

Does it have 4MB with 4MB "Boost"?

Do you mean 4GB memory? I haven't seen any boost option, and haven't needed it for my usage.

    • Do you understand the words that are coming out my mouth?

Fifty million dollars? Man, who do you think you kidnapped? Chelsea Clinton?

Just note that this won't be getting Android 15 or up.

    • How so? I have one, and it upgraded itself to Android 14 in November 2024, why won't it get Android 15?

      • +2

It's not currently on the eligible to upgrade to Android 15 list
But neither is the G54! G55 is.
*List may be updated by manufactures

        • I don't think "eligible" is the right word there, that's a list of which phones have a promised upgrade path, including those for which the upgrade has been delivered.

Thanks, I'll stay hopeful my G14 will receive another upgrade. But as the Android 14 update came about a year after Android 14 was officially released, it could take a while.

and why is android 15 important?

      • +1

Have a read. A big upgrade to compete with Apple OS features. Privacy, security, personalisation.

      • Is any single software update going to change your whole life, of course not.

But a brand new phone with 0 chance of updates going forward is a serious negative.

      • Not exactly relevant for low end phones but some crucial Apps like teams can have organisational policies that restrict the App if its version is too old.

Maybe Whatsapp in 2 yrs time may say it needs Android 15 to function.

Missed out on g54 sale :(

Thanks … bought this phone today and I am pretty impressed what $128 gets you. Of course the higher models offer more … but the value for money goes down with every step up (maybe the G54 is the sweet spot with it's more powerful processor and more RAM … but when you don't need this the G14 is great value. Considered buying the G85 from Amazon for $326 and I am glad I opted for the G14 and saved the money.

    • Timing & luck is handy in Deals…

glad I opted for the G14 and saved the money.

      Same, except bought the G54 5G @$149.
Was waiting to buy a mobile as backup for travel, with eSIM.
      So bought discounted gift cards.
$10 JB Perks Voucher is also a nice way to reduce purchase price.

G54 5G fitted my needs & cost just a bit more than this @$135.

(Still using 4yr old G62 5G bought with $90 of Telstra Plus points earnt in Deals, so effectively free.)
      Happy with both Motos.

  • Is anybody else having issues with updates? it's stuck on 0% and I have left it all night.

    • Yup same. It stucks at 0% verifying update. Guess I'll have to restart the phone to kill it.

Phone is fantastic otherwise though. Fast & responsive.

      • Nevermind. Rebooted and the updating thing came back and still stuck. Grr…

        • Found a way to kill that thing. Go to Apps Management -> Show system apps -> Find Motorola Update and kill it.

Just that now we won't be able to update the phone, cause it'll get stuck if you try to do the update again.

        • Rebooted and that annoying update came back. Ended up factory reset the phone. Make sure to disable automatic software update during set-up. So far so good.

But this also means I'll never receive update for this phone … can live with that.
