  • Any thoughts about getting 2 1500va units vs 1 3000va and splitting the load between the two?

    These are my thoughts:

    Pros
    Cheaper
    Redundant

    Cons
Take up 4u vs 2u (i have plenty of rackspace though)
Potentially lower run time if load is not balanced well

Got a couple of old eatons that I am thinking about replacing.

Also, i cant see to find their SNMP slot cards anywhere…

    • Cons
-More noise (dB rating on devices were similar, might not matter depending on location)
-Additional Heat? (Depends on the manufacturer differences)
-Less convenient when using the smart monitoring features due to the fact that it'll be split up (Not familiar with the firmware first-hand)

      Notes
-There appears to only be a $100 difference between the 2 vs 1 option, have you looked at how much replacement batteries would cost too? That might be worth taking into account as well.
It has a five-year warranty, so I'd expect the battery to stay in good shape for longer than a general UPS, but it might be handy to add in those figures.

      3000va usually needs 15A socket

      • Good point, i left that bit off, but I do have a 15A dedicated circuit to the server rack as well.

  • Interesting.

I have been using the Allpowers R600 as a cheap LFP based UPS. It has 299wh of storage (I think maths out about the same as the above unit) and is often discounted around the $300 mark. It only has a maximum of 600w peak power output not 1500w but I never find peak power to be the limiting factor, just runtime. I am getting over an hour of runtime when pulling 150-200w and +6 hours running a small 20-45w computer. It is completely seamless taking over as a UPS if there is a power outage with network/computer equipment, and seamless hand back when the mains comes back on*.

    • Note: The only drawback of the Allpowers unit I have found is that if it runs completely flat before the mains comes back on, it needs a button press to start powering attached devices again. If the mains comes back on before it runs completely flat you don't need to do that, it is hands off and seamless. Its the only drawback I can find, and its pretty minor given how cheap it is.
    • How smart is it’s charging circuitry? Is it going to have battery issues if constantly on power?
Otherwise sounds like a good option

      • +1

I have been running it for about 6 months now, and all seems good. Lithium batteries live and die by their BMS, so we will have to see over time how it goes, but LFP chemistry batteries have potentially very long lives if the BMS is half decent.

    • The fan on my R600 is rather loud and regularly kicks in

      • It should not do that, it only needs to run the fan if you set it to recharge as fast as possible. You can run it in silent mode (but it should be on that mode by default). If you download the app you can change it, and it will be silent, but will take slightly longer to refill an empty battery.

        • +1

Thanks, I had relegated it to powerbank usage, but I’ll check the app and reconsider for UPS usage.

      • Is it a V1 or beige V2 ?

        • its grey/black, not beige

    • Have you found a way to inform your devices that its on battery power so they can shutdown if you're not home?

  • Why do UPS manufacturers always quote the instantaneous wattage but not the storage capacity (Wh or kWh)? And they quote the active power and wattage as if people will know their loads power factor.

    • From specs: Battery Type(Lithium): 48.0V6AH

Annoyingly similar to traditional UPS of this form factor (4x 12v 7AH) but hopefully 80-100% useable from this lithium vs. 50% from traditional lead.

      • Thanks.

However then one needs to calculate the usable capacity; what’s the battery voltage, what’s the cell configuration, what’s the inverter efficiency, what’s the minimum (usually ~15%) and maximum battery capacity, etc. Maybe I’ll check the datasheet but it would be nice if they just quoted uptime at various loads (50%, 100%) in the blurb.

        • Agreed, generally a pain hunting that info, but in this case it was listed in one of the images.

          Reliable Power Backup for yours!
          50w 377 min
          100w 238min
          10%Load 90min
          50%Load 19 min
          100%Load 9 min

          • +1

@semaj: You can't trust that image. It is the exact same image on the 1500VA, 2000VA and 3000VA pages.

            • @videoman: Sorry, I only looked at the 1500VA, it can’t be the same for them all.

    • Urgh, I 100% agree. Give me simple Wh or kWh of usable capacity. Peak watts and runtime at that peak.

Maybe runtime at 25% of peak watts (that is what most common usage looks like) would also be great.

    Cheaper here @ $749.50 ?

    • Wow, this is a good find. Thanks mate. I looked hard and couldn't find it cheaper, clearly not hard enough.
Well done. Good seller rating too.

      Makes me feel terrible though

      • I hadn’t come across this VoltX lithium UPS before, so thanks for your post it’s appreciated.

Good to finally see a lithium based UPS at a fair price point.

Annoying/frustrating they’ve reduced the price so soon after your purchase.

    • Bloody hell. Thanks for pointing it out. Now i have to cancel my order and re-order it.

    • +3

It's now down to $699.50 with the HGJAN25 voucher.

      • Not sure I could be bothered cancelling my order to save the extra $20.. not very OzB of me I know!

    • Thank you! Just got one of these with the HGJAN25 code for $699.50. What an amazing start to the new year

    • +1

      Now jacked.

  • Anyone find the correct specifications for these?

The VoltX UPS 2000VA 2000W page says-
    "BATTERY
    Battery Type(Lithium): 76.8V6AH
Backup time: 9min @ full Load"

But the VoltX UPS 3000VA 3000W page says-
    "BATTERY
    Battery Type(Lithium): 76.8V6AH
Backup time: 9min @ full Load"

    That can't be correct right?

Coupon codes arrived, sorry for those who bought last night or early this morning.

  • Can I put this in a car to run a dash cam?

  • Damn, I haven't even received my boxing day order. I have to figure out a way to return it. It's a big price difference.

Does anyone know if I refuse to collect the delivery by Australia post a way to return it? Can I just ask them to return to sender??

    • Yes you can, or take back to the post office and ask to return to sender

    • They jacked the price now so you won't be able to buy another one for this price.

  • +1

Anyone know where you can get the SNMP Card for these VoltX UPS?

  • Grabbed one for my Ubiquiti stack. Was keen to go the 2000va but settled for the 1500va. Thanks for posting the deal OP, great find.

  • Anyone have any recommendations for how to plug a regular Australian plug into the output receptacles? I'm just going to have the UPS standing up on the ground next to my computer.

Would a cable like this be the best way to do it?- https://www.ple.com.au/products/622445/alogic-015m-iec-c14-t…

    • +2

Yep, thats exactly what you would use.

But if you are connecting it to a computer or monitor l, just use a c14 to c13 cable. There are also a lot of other terminations, like figure 8 or clover leaf.

  • Never heard of this brand… how does it compare against reputable brands like Eaton?

Can't find much technical information about this UPS either… e.g. is it online or line-interactive?

  • Mine's battery is DOA, showing no voltage. Contacting their support now. Not a good first impression.

    • Oh no. Not good.
I better open mine and test it. Haven't yet turned it on

      • +2

        For anyone sees this:

I just tried again. It turns out there is a red battery connector behind the front panel, mine came in unplugged. Once I plugged that one, and reconnected the UPS to main, it came alive. Battery showed 50%.

I would not have done it if I needed to unscrew and open the whole unit. But the front panel can be taken off easily.

There is nothing related to this mentioned in the user manual by the way.

        • +2

Thank you so much for posting this. I just turned mine on for the first time and I got the "error code 33" no battery error.

I was about to start panicking but the first thing I did was check ozbargain to see if anyone else had had the same problem. I did what you suggested and pulled off the front panel and plugged in the battery and it seems fine now.

          • +1

@videoman: Cheers. I also had a big mood swing when I realised I’d have to pack it up and send it back—it would be such a pain.

        • Thanks mate. Just saw this. will try it and report back.

        • thank you so much for sharing this info mate!
yep, tried it and it works. i had no clue. this is my first time using an UPS.
batteries were half full and charging now.

        • +2

Fyi they're always shipped with the battery disconnected

      • Mine arrive today. I pulled the front to rotate the LCD as it's in the lounge on charge standing up and noticed the battery connection. To be fair to you it says nowhere in the manual about connecting those. I reread the manual just to be sure. The English in the manual isn't that great nut the unit seems good so far. Will have to do some load tests once it charged.

        • Yeah, build quality is good. User manual, on the other hand, does not provide much info in depth. For example, it tells you how to select ECO mode in UPS mode, but what does it do and what difference between it and other modes? Nothing.

I was hoping to find the OEM who makes them for Voltx, browsing through sites like Alibaba, but I couldn't find similar products.

          • @seriousquokka: Yeah I still can't find the SNMP card anywhere and the menu order in the manual is different to what mine does.
Manual: Input Voltage, Battery Voltage, Input Frequency, Load, Temp, Model, Firmware
Mine: Input Voltage, Input Frequency, Battery Voltage, Temp, Load, Firmware, Model
But I like it. Will have to see if I can get it working with NUT

          • @seriousquokka: They seem to be based on KSTAR UPS from what I can tell. The software download site also indicates that too. (ksdatacloud).
Very close to the "KSTAR Memopower Li 1-3kVA UPS with Lithium Batteries" or "VP68 Li-ion UPS".

    • Did yours come with rack mounting kit?

  • Has anyone found a way to control the UPS in Windows 10? I plugged the UPS in with the usb cable but it doesn't seem to do anything. There are no changes in the power options in windows.

    • +1

You need some software like upsmon to connect to the ups

      • I don't think that is the problem. When I plug the UPS into my computer with the usb cable nothing shows up in device manager. Has anyone had any luck with this UPS in windows?

  • The VoltX UPS 1000W is still available for $714 here:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/166963544449

    • We got the 1500va one for $699.50

      • Yeah I did too but they’re all jacked everywhere now except that one. If someone still wants one just thought I’d post
