Refunded Purchase on a Vanilla Mastercard Gift Card

So I cashed in on the 10x Woolworths Everyday Rewards bonus points by purchasing the Mastercard gift cards when they were on offer a few months ago.

I bought a Qantas flight with it which was later cancelled, and Qantas say they have issued a refund to the card, giving the last 4 digits only - (understandably for security reasons).

As the gift card was disposable, once it was used I disposed of it, so I no longer have the card details.

Does anybody have experience of if/how I would be able to get my money back?

Thanking you in advance.

@mapax - only 14 hours in to 2025. It's going to be a great year based on this statistic alone.

Mastercard thanks you for your eventual donation to their 2025 Christmas party fund.

    Oh you fked up

    • Oh dear - that’s a little dramatic lol! It’s a costly mistake - of course - but nobody has been harmed by it and that’s all that matters. Sending positivity your way for a brighter outlook on life 🙏

Try emailing the card issuer with your receipt and whatever digits of the card number you have available. They may be able to verify it’s yours with the receipt plus the exact purchase amount made on the card.

Receipt should be available in your Woolworths account as you scanned your rewards card.

  • Oh so that is how they can afford to sell these cards at a loss. Good to know.
Not helpful today but for future reference, have a spreasheet with card numbers, amount and where you spent them. If you are too lazy to do that, then you can take the risk of this happening to you.

I bought a Qantas flight with it

    Why?

This is why I keep all the old cards and write on them where it was spent if online. One day I'm going to tile a room with them.

    • Yes, this is what I do as well. And for anything with the possibility of a refund I use a CC. Sorry that I cannot help OP.

      • anything with the possibility of a refund I use a CC

I also use a credit card if there's a possibility of a charge back. I know you can do it with a prepaid card but I wouldn't want to try.
