Help with Purchasing Adjustable Dumbbells

Leaning towards Cast Iron spin lock dumbbells, they are cheaper and seem like they would be a lot more durable and I'm not bothered by having to change weights between sets and exercises. Also can purchase extra plates if I need to increase the weight whereas I can't do that on the newer style dumbbells.

Should I hold out for any deals? Willing to wait to purchase but they seem not to go on sale very often.

Appreciate any advice.

  • New years resolution or longer term plans?

Long term hopefully, been doing calisthenics for 12 months.

I've been doing at home dumbbell workouts since covid using adjustable spinlock dumbbells - they're good.
Just one thing to watch out for when using adjustable dumbbells, they can be a bit bulky/clunky depending on what exercise you're doing so keep that in mind.

Also have a look on Facebook Marketplace for people selling off old equipment. There's not a huge difference between brand new and second hand since they're pretty durable.
Might be some good deals in 1-3 months when people give up on their new years resolutions.

    never buy new gym equipment.

I got benches and weights all for free off marketplace and gumtree.

you can prob get it for like 40% rrp second hand, as long as its heavy it will do the trick.

    • Came here to say the same thing… so many bargains on used gear

You pretty much need to almost religiously be searching everyday if you want to get a good bargain - and know what to look for/ going rates for alternatives - there’s plenty that are also in the market and some that even do it full time.

I bought some extra Olympic weights in OKAY condition at $2.50/kg off a full time reseller in 2022, but everyone else I enquired with was all like I KnoW WHaT i GOt - asking insane rates like $4.50/kg pickup for beat up gear.

        • Just found $50 for 30 kilos of homemade concrete dumbbells 😭😂🤣😭
