it is probably worth $100 more for the Epix Pro ($899 at JB Hifi). main difference is an updated heartrate sensor.

this model's also missing the flashlight, definitely go for the pro instead

Agree the flash lights is way more useful than thought.

My daughter has been sick with gastro, checking her nappy without turning on any lights. Winner.

Yerp, agree with @BuyoTheCat, the heartrate sensor is worth it.

Also an underrated feature = Flash light. I thought it was pretty stupid… oh how was I wrong. if you know, you know =]

  • How are the sensors in the newer Garmins? I have a Fenix 6 model and it’s so bad. While sitting and having the Walk activity on it keeps on adding distance. I have 2 or 3 km of “walking” while sitting and reading.
Or km added while in a moving car/bus/train with the said activity on.

Garmin has some of the best sensors out there, even for the older models.

Perhaps if you’re sitting and reading, don’t record it as a GPS-based activity?

GPS is also not accurate to the centimetre, so i’m not surprised it adds a little bit when standing still for long periods. Turn auto-pause on, or get moving!

      • There are moments where the count stops like in a moving vehicle but not always. So, it seems that there is some logic attempted but that logic fails miserably often times.

    • Re the walking activity. GPS will drift a little bit not 2-3 kms while reading a book. You can pause activities which would eliminate this. There's also auto pause but not sure how that would go with walking activities.
Re a km added while driving. Assuming you are referring to steps with this? I'm not sure any step counter would be able to recognize your movements are driving but a km of steps is 1300+ steps so unless you are driving a few hours this shouldn't happen.
I'd factory reset the watch as I have a 6 pro that has the same issues you've listed but nowhere near the distances you are getting.

      • Thanks. I will do it. Will it then lose all the past history or it’ll be still available on the phone?

There were cases where it would show me that I was “walking” 1 km in like 2 minutes. I don’t think there is anyone that could do walk like this for a sustained period of time.

        • There should be a backup saved in Garmin connect. Just make sure you forget the Bluetooth connection in your phones settings as well.

    • As others pointed out, GPS coordinates can be accurate usually from 5-20m to with a good unit and good reception. The less accurate the coordinate is the more it will jump around in that radius which could lead to it think you’re walking around in small circles and gaining those 2-3kms while sitting still. Can be due to poor reception indoors too.

      • I think that if Garmin guys would have dogfooded themselves they would have discovered these bugs and would have tried a simple logic like: if the watch isn’t moving, as I bet it has some sensors to detect that, don’t track anything.
Or if the activity tracked is walking don’t assume that speeds like >60km/h is someone walking.

  • Pro is great, but yhe 42mm version is never discounted. Looking for it.

    Great watch.

    • Same here. Waiting for a discount on the 42mm. I wonder why though…

  • Anyone had experience with the Huawei GT Pro Watches? I'm curious on thoughts comparing the two. I've got the new GT5 Pro and it's got all the whizbang health sensors, a good UI and yes, flashlight (screen light).

Just curious what those with the Garmin like about them? My wife's got the Garmin Venu SQ and it's a piece of junk. Dodgy connectivity and terrible OS.
