PSA: Qantas Health Insurance Loophole Closed

Just a PSA that Qantas seem to have closed the loophole for Qantas Health Insurance.

New T&C seemingly as of 1 Dec 2024:

Qantas Frequent Flyer members who purchase a Qantas Health Insurance policy between 1 December 2024 and 11:59pm AEDT 31 January 2025 will earn up to 120,000 sign on Qantas Points over 6 months. Qantas Points will be awarded to the primary policyholder in two stages and will be based on the level of cover held at each stage: (1) up to 96,000 Qantas Points after the same level of cover has been held for 60 continuous days, (2) up to 24,000 additional Qantas Points after the policy has been held for 180 days.

  wait whats the loophole? that you receive the same amount of points for dropping the level of cover after you hit 60 continuous days?

    You used to be able to have basic for ~55 days, change to top level for when you hit the 60 day mark, but still get the top bonus points amount.

  I think they would have awarded the points up front and people would simply cancel the policy but everyone has to wait nearly a year because of a few bad apples.

    If you got the apples from one of the majors you can request a refund

    You can just cancel after 60 days, hardly a year? 96000 points is $960 so pretty good return for 2 months.

      Have a look at the top tier covers - they are very expensive, which makes the points not so good without the loophole.

      But no surprise they closed it - too many ozbargainers milking points using the loophole then churning away. Can't really expect them to lose money hand over fist.

  Interesting, I singed up on 27th Oct, on 21 Dec I upped to top level of both hospital and extras on 21st Dec and on the 27th Dec I was credited with the full 60k points

  So I guess anyone who signed up under the Points Frenzy in Nov is safe
