  • Better than meater 2?

    • +1

I have the Meater, it's rubbish.

      • Why is it rubbish?

        • +3

Connections drop out, says the meat is sometimes hotter / sometimes colder in the middle sensors on the probe than the inner and outer ones (so it might say the centre of the meat is 30°C, then as you get closer to the outside it’s 22°C, but the outer portion is 42°C)

          Meater support are a joke

          • @linkindan: I have the Meater+ and recently Meater 2, both are working fine. Occasionally losing connection when Inclose the BBQ lid, but temp has always been spot on

Why is the black one longer than the white? 🧐

    • +2

The white one is a grower

    • no external ambient in the smaller one

In case your meat is thinner or shorter. Also, black is always longer than white.

  • I've got the inkbird 4 probe, when it works it's good but cover it with 2 layers of foil and the signal becomes intermittent. App also sucks, it updates quite slow, maybe due to me denying it location access (wtf do you need my location!).

    • Damn, I got the single probe (INT-11X-B) and it's working really well so far on no cover meats like rump cap and rolled lamb, as I havent had a chance to do something bigger yet!

It does work better when the case is right mext to the bbq for me, and sucks even a few metres away inside.

Totally agree on the location, its pretty ridiculous!

Couldn't you pierce the foil with the probe, rather than wrapping it?

      • Too much effort, I usually have a layer of baking paper under the foil to prevent bits of foil sticking to the meat so I'll have to cut a hole through both layers. And the probe may not be poking out of the tray.
Really depends on how you're planning to use the probes, if you use it for roasting then it won't be a problem, but once you start braising where you cover it then signal becomes a problem.

who would have thought a faraday cage will block wifi…

  • Was a bit suss on the RRP but it’s actually listed for that on Amazon right now. Tempting…

  • How long are the probes in the INT-14-BW? All 120mm? And they all have an ambient temperature sensor? But said sensor's reading can only be viewed in the app (not on the display of the charging base? Thanks

  • Do NOT buy this if you intend to use it in a steel kettle or a ceramic kamado .. the lid goes down and so does the signal ..I say steel kettle and ceramic kamado because that is what I have ..YMMV ..a meater works in both cases but it is twice the price.. I have two of these ..one I bought the second one was sent as a replacement since I could not get the first one to work and I have a meater,if you cook enough just a digital probe temp reader works the best .. these fancy gadgets sound nice but are not worth the coin..I bought both because I bbq a lot and I bought the inkbird wired one as well with multiple probes but I still rely on the good old digital temp probe..that too is an inkbird ..

    • You should try the thermoworks rfx, goes through thick steel.

      • I have no idea what that is and I would have bought it in the past and thank you for suggesting it ..I just do not need any of these wireless temp readers with apps that tell you what to do.. Just a simple digital probe temp reader is all I need these days because I know my grills and I know how long it takes.. but thank you for suggesting this product

        • It uses radio frequency instead of bluetooth, pretty much the only reliable wireless probe for bbq. Wish they had released it sooner, they released it not long after I bought the inkbird.

In my big Joe. The meatstick X works flawlessly.
I just think this brand is low end waste.
I watched and read a lot of reviews prior to buying the meatstick X. Only 2 thermometers consistently got recommended meater and meatstick. The extended range variants being the recommended versions of each.

    • +2

The charging station serves as the Wifi home base for the bluetooth probes. So if you place it about 50-70cm from the bbq, it should still pick up the signal through the BBQ's steel cover, and then send the information via Wifi to the app.

      • Is that definitely the case with the Inkbird? I know it is with the Meater but couldn’t find anything to confirm that for this one so have held off for now.

    • I am currently using the single probe version in my kamado.

I am having no problems with the bluetooth signal from the other side of the house.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Avoid this brand or any brand other than meater or meatstick. They are the only ones who have good reliable thermometers in the Bluetooth space. Also buy the extended range variants (i.e meater/2 plus, or meatstick X /4X)
