    This or the C745?

Do you mind explaining how these codes work, are the last two digits the size and the first digit like a model number? The higher that digit the better? Curious as I'm looking at upgrading my 12 year old Hisense that hasn't skipped a beat.

          Understanding TCL TV Model Codes

TCL TV model codes, such as TCL 55" C655 and TCL 55" C855, provide useful information about the TV's specifications, series, and positioning within TCL's product lineup. Here’s a breakdown of what these codes typically mean:

          1. Screen Size
          • 55": Refers to the diagonal size of the TV screen in inches. Both the C655 and C855 are 55-inch TVs.
          2. Series or Generation
          • C: Denotes the series. "C" usually represents a mid-to-high-end series in TCL's lineup, emphasizing features like QLED (Quantum Dot technology), enhanced picture quality, and advanced features. Other letters, like "P" or "S," indicate different ranges (e.g., entry-level or basic).
          • 6 or 8: Represents the series tier within the "C" lineup.
            • 6 Series (C655): Generally a mid-tier offering with solid features and good value for the price.
            • 8 Series (C855): Higher-tier, offering more premium features, advanced technologies, and better performance.
          3. Region or Model-Specific Features
          • 55C655: This model may be targeted at specific regions or markets and comes with features tailored to those regions, such as slightly different software versions, brightness levels, or supported formats.
          • 55C855: This model is typically more advanced than the C655 and could include features like:
            • Better panel quality (e.g., higher brightness, better contrast).
            • Improved local dimming zones.
            • Enhanced processing power.
            • Support for higher-end HDR formats like Dolby Vision IQ.
            • Improved motion handling.
Key Differences Between C655 and C855
          Feature C655 C855
          Panel Type QLED QLED (Premium)
Backlight Edge-lit or Basic Full Array Advanced Full Array or Mini-LED
HDR Support HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision HDR10+, Dolby Vision IQ, HLG
Processing Standard Processing Advanced AI-Powered Processing
Audio Standard Audio Output Enhanced Audio (e.g., Onkyo or Dolby Atmos)
Build Quality Plastic Build Premium Finish
          How to Choose
          • C655: Great for those who want good performance at a more affordable price.
          • C855: Ideal for buyers looking for premium features, better picture quality, and enhanced technologies.

By comparing features and prices, you can decide which model best fits your needs and budget.

            @stoogethomas: Thanks stooge, appreciate it

            • +4

@Jenko1: One thing missing in there is how new it is, the C855 came out this year, the C845 came out last year, the C835 came out in 2022. The C755 vs the C745 is quite different, as they moved to miniLED in 2024 for the C755, whereas the C745 was FALD, so it's a huge jump. TCL has also improved quality dramatically as they bought Samsung's panel making business from them in 2022.

sween64's question is actually a pretty valid one as the C655 is newer and both are FALD, but the C745 has the advantage in that it's 144hz. Without digging too hard, I dunno about brightness levels and such but I'd say go for the C745 if it's the same price.

          • @stoogethomas: Thanks but totally wrong. The C745 isn’t a 45” TV. In fact in comes in multiple sizes.

            • +1

@sween64: No one said 745 was 45”, although it’s somewhat understandable you would infer that from the unnecessarily verbose AI description.
The last 2 digits wasn’t explained by the AI, but was explained by freedall101’s reply.

              • @rooboo: So the first digit refers to the series, the second digit relates to the year it’s produced for and the last digit?

                • @sween64: I think the letter is the series actually:
                  C is QLED mini LED
P is regular LED (I think)
X is their premium QLED, although not sure really how different they are and they’re not available in every region.

First number is the tier within the series.

You could either say that the last number means nothing and is always 5 (as far as I know) or the last 2 numbers together is the progression through the years: 35, 45, 55.

Technically the full model number will have the size in front, e.g. 65C755, although usually it’ll be written as 65” C755.

Dunno who the people are that are downvoting you, seems a valid question if the C745 is a similar price. The C745 is better due to being 144hz as well as slightly brighter.

Hard to find a good comparison of the two, but I stumbled across this - https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/bc822b34…

Bought the 75 inch C755 and whaooooo what a TV (coming from a 2017 samsung).
    loving the voice search function.

    • +1

Same, I just picked up the 65" version. So much nicer and clearer compared to my last TCL 4k tv from 2018.

    • Also looking to upgrade from my 2017 samsung 55'' and wondering if I should go 75 or 85 as I have a larger room…
Can I ask how much you paid?
Are the ports all same as samsung (hdmi x3 etc..)?
Lastly, have you wall mounted it or sits on a unit?

      Thanks

    • Can I ask how much you paid?

      • Boxing day sales JB had it for 1645 and they still do.
HN had it same price also + %10 back in GCs.
I went into JB and got the TV price matched to Appliance Giant $1516 and i told them to match HNs Giftcard offer too so did that.
        Pretty good deal imo.

  • If the c855 75inch drops down to $1.9k I'm buying

    • Yep. I’m also gonna be jumping on this bandwagon

    • Cant remember which thread, someone bought for 1725

      • Wow lucky them!! Don't think we will ever see that price again

      • +1

Yeah I got it for this in October. Great TV.

Got super lucky and snagged the 85 inch c855 for $2100 delivered back in November.

    • +1

Was just at TGG asking about the 855 - apparently supplier has advised no more new orders as it is being discontinued. So only stock is what has already been ordered or is on hand. So they are going to be hard to get.

      • Thank you for sharing this information guess there won't be much sales for this TV then

      • What is going to be the replacement model?

  • How does this compare to c755?

    • 755 is closer to 845 than to this one.

  • I'm still a bit confused, judging by the marketing material this is close to as good as the $2K TVs, such as LG C4? Just the blacks won't be as black?

    • Well one is OLED and the other is not. If you don't understand the difference you are unlikely to notice the difference in blacks to be honest. There are a few other advantages of the LG OLEDs, the main thing is it is pretty much compatible with everything hardware wise, will play anything you throw at it either best in class or second in class. Just an all round solid purchase if you want to make sure you have a 99% of time "best in class" product.

  • AV1 support I think.

  • Mixed reports on C655 looking at 65 or 75 inch in this or C755 - reports can be glitchy / slow at times. No gaming, just TV Movies & all be improvement over 10 yr old 47’ LG but want smooth operating system. Wonder if worth it to save $ over C755? Spend extra on decent surround sound system 🤷‍♂️ It doesn’t have Imax filmmaker mode though.

    • Imax filmmaker mode though

Do a lot of TVs have this?

Is that so you can get the image stretched on your big TV in 4k as opposed to black bars?
