Google Pixel 8a 128GB for $664.05 (Price Beat at Officeworks)

RRP: $849
Deal Price: $664.05
Store: Officeworks (Price Beat Guarantee)
While the lowest price for this phone was during Black Friday at $649, you can still grab it for $664.05 by using Officeworks' price-beat guarantee. I had to visit a couple of stores, as the first manager didn’t think they could match it due to the trade-in option listed (which you can skip and just pay $699 for the phone).

Details:

Price on Google Store: $699
Found another deal at Catch.com.au for $675 (note: overseas stock-OW wouldn't beat)
Officeworks wouldn’t initially match the price on Google Store, but I got the price beat at another store after explaining that the trade-in was optional.

Check if your local Officeworks is willing to match or beat! YMMV.

Pixel 8a has been much cheaper, especially during pre-order. Paid $549 with trade-in and $200 voucher. Not just that, most items are $50 more compared to black Friday offer. It was 649 then.

    • and I think you got a gift card.

    Hold!!!

pixel 8 at this price should be about right

    • Yes!

  • Pixel 8a or Sammy A55 for ease of use and camera?

    • +1

A55 has better battery but worse camera and software support - but $200 cheaper!

But 8a will have 7 years of updates

  • Battery is mediocre, look for other option if paying that much.

    • My 8a can last for a full day with photo taking, playing video and occasional gaming. It's a decent phone IMO in this price range.

      • Any advice to help the battery last that long?

My one complaint with my recently purchased 8a is that I rarely get a full day out of it.

The battery doesn't come close to my 3-year old Poco that it replaced and I'm kinda of disappointed…

The main culprit for my battery drain was 'mobile connection', unfortunately turning this off isn't a viable solution, but you could try forcing the phone to use 4G only and see if it helps.

For reference, I used to get about 4 - 5 hours SoT using mainly Firefox, Reddit, and WhatsApp with 5G on.

I've had some people say that these solutions are stupid because what's the point of having a smartphone…. but:

          Don't use live wallpapers.
Make your wallpaper completely black and also make your keyboard black if it has the option.
Use black themes in any apps that support it.
Avoid installing apps that you wouldn't regularly use.
Disable Google assistant/digital assistant apps if you don't use them.

A bit more of a nuisance, but you could even disable NFC and Bluetooth when not using them.

    • battery is excellent compared to my S21 FE. At least I can get a full day of use without charging now

    • Coming from the g54 which had great battery life, like 1.5 days of moderate use from full charge for me.

P8a gives me a decent day or so in similar circumstances, so it's not a strength for it like battery life was for the g54, but it's not a weakness. It's middling to decent for me coming from a long time with the g5x series.

Also throw in the small size, which is hard to find and for me this is the pick of the pixel 8 range.

JB had for $650 and $50 voucher to spend. Grabbed one and happy so far, going great. But I like Pixels and have had them from since i got my Nexus 5 (LG) so im a bit bias. But good all round phone for the dollar.
