Are all the boots still made in Australia?

    • -2

      Yes

    • +3

      Not all of them

    • +4

Some say crafted while others made in Australia, is there a difference between the two?

      • +1

        Good question

      • Crafted sounds a little like slang for designed in… That'd be very dishonest

        • Some say made in Australia while others hand made in Australia.

  • +2

Not as good as they used to be:

      Alternative?

      • Meermin and Thursday come up often in australiaMFA on reddit. I haven't tried either yet though

        • Thursday boots are supreme comfortable.

        • Thursday are fantastic

        • +1

Either of those have options around $200? Or any other alternatives?

Even though I'm all in for long lasting, I still manage to destroy boots or scuff them deep.

      • +1

I've bought a pair of hush puppies boots and haven't looked back.

I'm going to share the same comment I always share here because some people find it helpful

Since people are going to see these and find they missed out and others are going to dump on RM's as too expensive not worth is etc, as a community service I'll just hammer out some alternatives here but keep in mind that RM's cost as much as they do for three reasons
        Where they are made- Australia
How they are made- Goodyear welted, cork, steel shank
What they are made of- Single piece of yearling leather, that means single pieces of flawless leather joined at the back only. Not easy to do.
No other boot will tick all three boxes, if you want something that will hit two of the three or something your choices are
Patfields: A clone of the comfort craftsman in G sizes, Made in India, decent soles, glued construction can be resoled.
Baxter Boots: The Goulburn is the closest to a pair of RM's, Goodyear Welted made in China.
Mandic: If you can find a pair of the Gilmore in your size left they are made in Australia and Goodyear Welted, the Gilmore Kangaroo is basically the same as the Patfields.
Mongrel: The 805's not build like a pair of RM's but are made in Australia and their dress boot but they are TPU outsole and are cemented or vulcanised. They have a shank in there, so try them on but they can be had for like $90 and they'll polish up just fine.
A relative newcomer Murtagh Boots in Tasmania have a square toe dress boot made in Tasmania which you can choose either Glued it Goodyear welted $265-365

        • how about these ones?
          https://www.ringerswestern.com/products/kununurra_mens_boot_-burnt_brown?variant=39417420677192&country=AU&currency=AUD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_source=RW_Google=&utm_medium=RW_GoogleAds&utm_campaign=21185568945&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA9667BhDoARIsANnamQaSVJJek-ywBXiyFlofjRI0vudNvPP6mzL8r5HItjj6SRZG73fZ0iEaAveEEALw_wcB

          • @hit23head: I don't have any first hand experience with the Kununurra but I've heard they are ok, the specs are right full leather lining shank and cork. Just measure the heel height on a pair of shoes you currently own they list 34.8mm.

The question will be the leather quality, I do not expect it to be up there with the RMs.

            • @ZuluOz: Thanks! I have had a very bad experience with rm .. Bought a pair from dfo after getting fitted but every time I wear them they leave a.nasty bruise on my toe. Dfo has closed permanently, customer care doesn't respond so not keen on spending 💰 again on something where the product nor service was good for me.

        • Do you know what the difference is between crafted and made in Australia?

          • +1

@stickymoo: I would ask the manufacturer directly as crafted is a very loose term but made in Australia is a term that has to mean made in Australia.

            • +1

@ZuluOz: Wonder if it is like Apples "designed in California" (made in China)

        • Thoughts on Rossi?
Edit - actually (profanity) Gina I’m going to get some from Mandic, cheers

          • @6079 Smith: I have a pair of the old Rossi's that were made in Adelaide, they're fine. The new ones are being flag-washed by Gina but are made in India.

Twiggys not great but at least RMs are made in Oz.

    • +3

As soon as LVMH owned them they made sure the quality dropped.

    • +19

I really wish people would stop citing this video as an argument.

        • +1

          You can..

      • +1

Nailed it. Rose Anvil is a shill and you can tell by how he reviews shoe brands that have/do sponsor him where everything is not optimal but good enough for the money.

    • Was going to post that one

      • -1

Why? It's a pointless video that's completely wrong.

    • +2

So he compared two different styles of shoe and made the claim that the construction had changed. RMs are overpriced, but Rose Anvil has no credibility.

    • +2

That review compares two different models of boot priced differently.

The OG video was the Craftsman and that is a comfort craftsman, the Comfort Craftsman is cheaper because of the difference in construction but it's still a single piece of leather and it's still Goodyear welted and still made in Australia.

    • You need to stop paying attention to influencers and dismissing products because of their videos

  • +1

It's always the less desirable colours on sale.

    • hence discounted :)

    • Does RM Williams actually ever discount their shoes? Last year I recall it just being bags, shirts and accessories.

I've been waiting years since got their giftcards over iconic or one of the department store ones.

  • Anyone know what the most recent ATL price is for the original plain black comfort craftsmans?

    • +1

Best you can do right now I think is by stacking discounted gift cards (10 or 15%) with a 20% off The Iconic birthday voucher. Will be around $450.

      • Is there any way to get discount RM GCs?

        • +1

          Not that I know of.

  • +1

    shame about the colour.

    • +2

You can easily make them much darker with good shoe polish. That would give you a chance to decide how dark you want them to be. You can make them black, although I'm not sure about the elastic, that cold be tricky

  • -1

Just an average colour but hey some might like it . One man trash is other mans treasure

  • -1

Pity the quality of the boot has gone downhill.

    https://www.thenewdaily.com.au/finance/consumer/2024/08/18/r…

    • +1

I like Rose Anvil but that video was shit.

He compares two different models of boot the Comfort Craftsman compared to the Craftsman. Not the same price, not the same style.

      • His video is not shit. RM shoes are way degrade in quality, compared to 5-8 years ago. Everyone knows, just when the price is down to $389, it becomes a better deal ( but not a better quality.)

        • +1

I have RMs from 11 years ago and RMs from 3 years. Both are Craftsman's both are the same quality.

Again he compared two different models of boot at two different price points

  • Thanks OP. Decided to go into store to get right size for first set of RM boots. Glad i did as i tried 4 diff pairs before landing on right fit. Most were pinching my little toes, very snug fit.

Edit: also no signage about sales and staff had to check website before honouring price but they didn't make a big deal out of it (other than confirming in hushed tones while store was packed with other customers lol. Id HOPE that the sale price came up at register for those others).

    • Conditions did say it was online only so looks like you had a score.

      • Nice! Must have scrolled right past that along with the salesperson and store manager.

  • Is Crazyhorse leather another term for Nubuck ?
