Modern Gourmet Hot Wheels Turbo Charged Hot Sauce Set $4.20 + Delivery ($0 with One pass) @ Catch

630

Are you constantly shaming yourself and embarrassing your friends by stealing the little Tabasco sauce bottle from every second Cafe you visit? I know I am.

Introducing the “Modern Gourmet Hot Wheels Turbo Charged Hot Sauce Set”. If non-sensical and paradoxically marketed products get you excited, this Clearance item from Catch is sure to have you tossing your ring into the fires of Mt Doom.

First of all, you know it’s sophisticated and aimed at the Purveyor of fine foods because it’s labelled Modern Gourmet. And you just know that the toy manufacturer Hot Wheels has vast experience and won many accolades in the hot sauce industry. Oh and don’t forget that it’s got a turbo charger, which is seemingly blowing flames onto the Cardboard box so handle with care. And if you weren’t sold already, it’s got the words Hot Sauce in there, as if an afterthought, but more likely by accident.

The packaging has been thoughtfully crafted to appeal to a very young child who would seemingly just love that hot sauce liberally poured all over their cereal or ice cream bringing tears of joy. The whole package would wrap up and present well as a gift, or you could just take it straight to the Pool room to display among your various trophies and prized collectibles for all your mates to gawk over.

I guess you could always use them as intended as hot sauce, but only if you’re sitting out front of your local Hospital’s Intensive care Burns ward. Personally, I have purchased a few of these just so that I can selectively return all of the stolen Tabasco bottles to the various Cafes. I’m on the path to redemption and salvation on this very merry Xmas day.

Oh, and if you’re super keen then Catch has $10 off with min $75 spend using code BOXING10. Limit of 50 per customer.

Nothing wrong with made in china… he types on his phone made in china.

        • +7

No to food and groceries. I don’t trust them.

          • @JoeyJoeJoe: Billions of people eat food made in China…

            • +4

@internet-stranger: Ouch. Downvotes for the obvious. We consume so much stuff from China, check the shelves in Cole’s and Woolworths.
But this is the one thing we can’t eat?

              • +4

@internet-stranger: i consulted for a decade in various food and beverage factories here

you should see all the imported ingredients from the developing world… and china

"made in australia from IMPORTED ingredients"

                it says it right there

I read up about saffron once, then decided I don’t really want to know…

              • @internet-stranger: You know some people read where their food is made and don’t buy made in China products right?

                • +3

@Yamai: Sure. Don’t disagree. But don’t downvote for the truth.
We eat so much produce from other countries, it’s funny to generalise and ignore a whole country (which will be hidden anyways in other foods as mentioned above)

  • Upvoted for the description!

  • It says $6, does it have a coupon to reduce the price?

    • +1

      30% discount in cart

  • +1

So it doesn't even come with an actual hot wheels car? Laaame.

  • +2

If you know anyone that enjoys chilli sauce, please don't get this for them.

These are all generic vinegar based sauces that have no heat and taste terrible. The same ones that kmart has in gift packs.

    • I love chili, and I love the vinegar based sauces. These are great for the glovebox!

      • +2

do you have your glovebox roasted, or do you prefer sous vide?

  • +1

They do not come in little car-shaped bottles. AVOID

  • Thanks OP!

    • Only 4 spicy vinegarettes in that combo :)

    • +1

The Stormtrooper one is hit and miss. Mainly miss.

      • Classic comment 🤣

  • Now I can be like Hillary Clinton…

  • For $6 or $8 you can get bunsters at Coles for this price - go for the award winners over this junk

    • Doubt it would be good awards

    • Not a fan of bunsters. No idea why it’s popular. The texture of bunster is of crushed veggies and chilli. Doesn’t stick to your chips.

  • Guys, I know this looks like a great bargain, fun gift etc - but for your own sake's, stay away from anything this company (Modern Gourmet) makes food wise.

I've bought three sauce products from them, and every single one was basically the same utterly horrid chinese crap tasting hot sauce with different colouring added.

If you want to buy for the bottles alone, then fine I guess - But you'll be tipping the contents down the sink for every one. And it's even a white elephant gift for the recipient because they'll not want to consume them, so it'll just go in the bin or sit in the cupboard taking up space forever.

    • I take every comment I hear complaining about “Chinese” stuff with a grain of MSG.

      • For the record, I don't care about MSG, but I'm saying it's not too surprising that a company might focus on fancy visuals and a gifting use case, and then cheap out super hard on the contents. That typically means manufacturing in China, it's just how it is.

They know you're not likely to buy a second copy of the same product for yourself, and even if someone might otherwise buy a different second product - most consumers don't pay enough attention to avoid the company itself.

    • I haven't come across this company before. Love the fun packaging though.

Interesting they have been around since 1998 and headquartered in Irvine, California.

Consumers seem to be buying the novelty packaging rather than the actual food. The owner has done well selling crap.

Headquartered in Irvine, California, the company supplies wholesalers, mass merchants, club stores, and small and specialty retailers throughout the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia with innovative, seasonal products anchored to key holidays.

Modern Gourmet Foods performs all essential design, product development and financial activities in the US, where it sells through a partnership network that includes Walmart, Target, Costco, and Sam’s Club, and sources and conducts in-country quality control from an office in Qingdao, China.

      • No doubt they're headquartered in the US, as their packaging and presentation is slick in a way Chinese products are typically not. But nevertheless, the products are Chinese manufactured and the quality of the actual consumable content reflects that entirely - it's garbage.

If you actually do just want a shiny box and some bottles with coloured vinegar in them - fine. But don't expect to make yourself or the gift recipient happy if any of it gets tasted.

        • Will have to buy some real hot sauce & add a HW car to keep the recipient happy. Only realised after I bought that it was made in China and no car either 😭
