Trash, don't buy, it scans successfully maybe 1/4 times so most of the time its quicker just to enter your passcode or password rather than waiting for Windows to reach the failed scans limit then requesting your passcode or password anyway.

      Same experience.

Device is also not exactly plug and play and required hunting for drivers(or a specific driver version) for it to work.

    • +2

There's a night and day difference between the cheap and expensive version.

    • +1

Agree. It's annoying. I'm having the similar issue.
      Any alternative suggestions?

Can't vouch for this one, but I have the desktop version and it's perfect and works each time. As usual with fingerprint scanners, you always make sure to slightly move your finger or rotate it slightly when enrolling.

      • There are a few models of Windows Hello fingerprint readers from Kensington VeriMark brand. All different from each other. This one is particularly bad.

    • +1

Not worth the frustration, even at half this price.

    • Thanks everyone for posting - I have gone through two different cheap brand ones with the same issue and wondered if paying for the "Kensington" brand would fix it.
I'll keep an eye out for a deal on the expensive/ desktop version instead.

    • So true. Also don't use the built-in FIDO U2F (YubiKey-like feature) as it's actually a software solution based on the Synaptics Windows driver instead of a proper hardware implementation, means it may not be as secure as you thought.

The cheap version is bad, it recognizes fingerprints maybe only 30-40% of the time.
Wait for the PRO version to go on sale, it works 10x better because its got a high quality sensor. I find they're about as good as those $500-600 phones with side fingerprint readers. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07WG2WL13/

If your pc or laptop equips with camer(I reckon most of monitor or laptop has it) you could convenient login Windows by Hello Face ID login.

Why do you need scan finger tip(for computer), it more anti-intuitive than Face ID.

    • Does it not require specific Face ID camera for windows hello? Not any cameras can do that right?

      • Windows Hello Facial Recognition requires an IR camera, e.g. this one

        • That is right, normal camera doesn’t support Face ID, IR camera is necessary

    • Why do you need scan finger tip(for computer), it more anti-intuitive than Face ID.

show me any camera listing support for Windows 11. Apparently, 23H2 and 24H2 renders previous useless.

Surface book and HP a couple of monitor support Hello Face ID which I used everyday.

        • I’m referring to standalone/after-market devices, like one in this thread. In dock setups, keeping laptop screen up for sake of Hello camera is impractical.

          • @AlexF: just update monitor which equips with IR camera, working as dock by thunderbolt connecting from laptop.
