Thanks OP! Waited so long I forgot I wanted this!
20% off
People with no international fee cards and Amazon JP accounts can also get these for even cheaper. Hell even if you have a card with international fees, it's still cheaper than getting it on the eShop.
¥2574 for Splatoon 3 Expansion Pass which probably comes to about $26
¥2124 for Mario Kart Expansion Pass which roughly comes to $22Mind: Redeemable on Jap accounts only.
Sure, there is the method of ‘switch to jap, redeem and then play via Aus account’. The purchase, however, will always be stuck in the jap account, and may be odd if it’s a one off thing.
With the 20% off eShop cards from Coles or the 10% off from JB paid with discounted GC, it's about the same. To change your region, you'll have to empty your balance.
The prices on Amazon JP are pretty much always lower than the AU eShop when searching for downloadable games/content, you can use Keepa to check the price history.
As for region, it's generally just a good idea to make a JP account on your Switch. Most games from Nintendo aren't region locked so there's no real risk in buying from Amazon JP. The only ones off memory that would have issues is Xenoblade 2 and Splatoon 2 and their respective DLC.
Thanks for this post. I bought the MK booster pass on amazon jp.
Having never done this - I had a few "oh what did I do" moments so I will list out what my experience was hoping it helps someone.
1) Signed up on jp amazon.
2) The translated page said option 4 was the downloadable content. I did not know how the purchaser would download - would a coupon/thingy with the download code be posted physically - or would I be emailed with the code. Reddit was filled with differing opinions
3) Used fakeaddress to get a jp address
4) Once the payment went through. There was a wait of about 30 minutes before I got a confirmation email. During these 30 minutes is when I was the most worried.
5) After the confirmation email, I switched the country of one of my accounts on nintendo to Japan.
6) Then on amazon, on the order history page there was a button on the purchase "Redeem on Nintendo" - clicked on that. Clicked the option of redeem code on the translated page. I think the code that is sent in the email can also be used via the eshop on switch.
7) And that was that - the booster pack automatically downloaded on the switch.
HTHI've basically been redeeming from Amazon JP for years now so it's been second nature for me, hence why I didn't add a tutorial in my initial post, but thanks for sharing your experience.
As for waiting that 30 minutes, if you clicked on your orders on Amazon, it would show what you bought and a button saying "Go to Your Games Library", after clicking that there's a part that says "ダウンロード番号" which means "Download code/number" in English. That is the code you can use to redeem from the eShop on your Switch. Generally the codes appear about 10-15 seconds after purchasing, I've never really checked the email so I have no clue what it says.
This information is if you ever want to purchase codes from there again, whether they be JP eShop cards or any other DLC. Main reason I tell people about Amazon JP is because the Japanese yen is so close to our dollar right now, it's just pretty much worth it. Not to mention AU eShop jacks up those prices badly.I followed these instructions and am also awaiting my confirmation email.
When I click the "Go to your games library" nothing shows up. I'm pretty sure I have the right item purchased but there's no charge on my cc yet so AmazonJP may be doing their due diligence.
That's $7.50 difference on a DLC that has never been on sale.
Wouldn't lose sleep over it especially if it's for kids.
You may leave your ozbargain membership on the way out /s
Nintendo rarely if ever does discounts on their own DLC's and this game has never had a discount in the years it been out. Don't lose sleep over it, not a rookie mistake :)
Joining a family plan for NSO+ is the best value if you want access to all the retro game consoles. Works out to be like $30 a year or whatever between six people.
$13.74 for NSO + Expansion /year for family split between 8 people ($109.95/8)
Yeah something like that. It's so little money per year I don't even bother keeping track of how much. It includes the Mario Kart DLC.
The problem is finding a family to join…. I’m in need if anyone has a slot? Expansion or normal NSO
Haunting a large and well moderated Nintendo Switch Australian group on FB probably a better bet for finding a family. Just buyer beware, try to find someone with a real profile full of real family and friends.
@AustriaBargain: Or get some real friends and family IRL
Try the OzB Classifieds, that's where I found a NSO family to join.
This stinks! This is total BS!
Would anyone know if the DLC for MK works with the cartridge version of the game?
Defs should.
Can confirm it does
Perfect timing. Last minute Christmas gift sorted.
Good timing just bought the kids MK8 so the add on will be a bonus. Need to wait for them to open their present tomorrow
brought animal crossing DLC, also all time low
do you need nintendo online for this? let my online account with addons for this lapse ages ago…
Switch Online Expansion Pack allows you to play the DLC without buying it.
yeh, ive had it in the past, great courses but i dont think i'll bother with nintendo online again in the near future, so probably a good idea to get this for what i assume doesnt require any online sub…
How does this work? I've got MK on cartridge, so I just buy this into my account and it'll auto add it to the game or something?
Yes.
Thank you! Will grab it..
Mario kart DLC is well worth the price.
Is this just to add a few courses for $30? Or anything i missed?
It's 48 courses plus more characters. Seems like decent value
48 courses and extra characters. Reviews are great
Crazy that DLC for a decade old game is still making the front page. Nintendo is a juggernaut.
It’s a very basic game too, but insanely accessible and fun.
Like imagine if people were still talking about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Or Counterstrike
@0 0 0: Or Streetfighter 2
or GTA V
Are Nintendo ever going to fix their website for eshop? So hard to browse and search for games.
works for me?
When does it end?
Or can I buy the Coles discounted gift card online?I have a switch with the primary account on it and my kids have their own switches with my account details signed in also. Any way for them (two kids) to play it at the same time via their cartridges? Or only one at a time?
Primaily played this on the WiiU. Might finally give the switch copy a go now
I was like, "will I still get my Mercedes Benz dlc?"
if im using gamecard, can i still buy this online and pair with my game card?
yes - this DLC will be playable when you load the cartridge using the account you purchase the DLC on.
Got the booster pass thanks OP
Do we need continue paying for nintendon online membership to access bought expansion pack?
Yes, you only have access while you've got an active membership
Incorrect. Once you buy this expansion pass, you do not need any of the memberships to access it. You still need the base Nintendo Switch Online membership to play online though.
My mistake, I misread that and thought they were asking about the access you get through the expansion subscription, not actually purchasing it. I didn't even think someone who would purchase the expansion would be subscribing to the membership to access the expansion
Thanks, the kids have been wanting the courses pack for a while.
Is Mario Kart 8 still worth buying this late into the game?
I have the original on the Wii U but that is packed away in storage.
KMT?
