Recommendations for Buying Cheap Windows in Perth

My house has quite old windows (timber framed) and they are rotting and in need of replacement.

Can anyone recommend a place that I can buy Aluminium windows from, in Perth? Would be great if they can fit them too? The place will be renovated soon, so I don't really mind the damage on the inside and outside cladding/gyprock.

If you're planning on renovating, wait. Sure, prices might rise but its better than whacking something in only to replace it as it doesnt fit with the reno.

Timber windows - how old is the house? Are they sash, slide or awning? Going into brick veneer or double brick? Do you want thicker, more energy efficient glass?

Cheapest option is residential aluminium 100mm frames that restrict glass thickness.

Next is semi commercial 150mm frames that can take thicker glass (usually 10mm thickness)

    Then full commercial.

Costs vary by supplier, style, finish etc. Im not in Perth but I believe you have Dowell over there?

Could get double or triple glazing while you're at it. Insulates better, cuts noise from outside.

      Crazy if you don't.

      Incorrect.

It comes down to U values.

For example, I put in Stegbar comfort 6.38mm single pane and the u value is 3.60.

Obviously double glazed would be 1.8-2.8 depending. But double glazing my house would be no short of triple the price, factoring in frame changes etc.

For those chasing it, its called 'Low e laminate glass' in the market. It is more expensive than standard glass

      • But OP needs new frames anyway.

  • Don't buy cheap frames. They will leak, the windows won't slides easily, and they will look cheap.

  • Try Boxing Day sales. Might be a window of opportunity

    • Ha - saw right through that one !

      • They are just being a pane.

  • Wooden frames cost a fortune, don’t replace them with aluminium ones. Surely they’re not all rotted away? Fill them and repaint them. It’s the easiest thing you can do yourself.

  • Ate you talking aboutbreplacing windows with cheap, then renovating and replacing them again? Doing minimal repairs on the current ones would be better if you are going to replace them later anyway.

If you are replacing for the future renovations then just doing everything else, dont cheap out on windows.
