Please help me find an affordable digital SLR before Xmas

Hi,

Yesterday I was reading a newspaper in a doctors office (where else do people read newspapers these days) and I saw a Harvey Norman ad for a Nikon D3100 with a VR lens for $438. Lasoo still has the deal in their cache but Harvey Norman is now listing the camera for $547.

$438 is an extremely expensive Xmas present and I really don't want to spend more than that, the next best Australian price is $488 at The Good Guys.

The newspaper I was reading was The Australian and if anyone knows where I might find a copy or scan of Wednesday's edition I'd be able to try and get a pricematch from JB or the like. Alternatively if anyone has any other suggestions I'd love to hear them.

This camera is going to be given to a very creative little girl and your help is greatly appreciated.

Check earlier post from OB for same model at $388.

Personally I prefer Big W for its return policy.

can't go past the Nikon D5100, one of the best semi pro cameras at ridiculously low prices

try Kogan if you don't mind grey import! I'm happy with mine!

Problem solved.

I got the Pentax K-01 (same sensor as Nikon D5100 and D7000) with a 18-55mm lens for $399.95 at Teds Camera House, I'm picking it up tomorrow afternoon.
