Needed one to do some colour film development at home, thought may as well get a decent one. Also good for steak I suppose!

  • Do you have to pay a subscription for the app to use this?

Yes $2 usd and 4.99 aud a month

      Inkbird app is free.

After using for about 18 months can highly recommend this sous vide. Great for chicken and steaks.

    • I've got one, and no you don't.

Don't even use the app - just dial in the temp and time on the display. Beeps when it hits temp, and when the time is up.

      • I have not used the app either as there are only 2 variables to set. Not sure what benefits an app would provide.

The only thing I can think of that would be cool, is if there was a power failure and the app could remotely check the unit to see that a power failure has occurred. And if the power was not out for too long for the food to enter the "danger zone", then it would force start the sous vide again and resume the previously set temperature and remaining time.. No idea if the app can actually do that, just saying that would be a cool feature.

I have not had a power failure during a sous vide cook yet, but I am always worried about it, especially when doing a 48 or 72 hour cook.

    • The app is pointless, as other have said, just set and forget

I bought one of these a few months back during a Prime day sale and they are awesome for cooking steaks. You will however need a cryovac and I recommend getting a searing torch to take it to the next level. Once you've done a few steaks and got it down to a fine art, you will never order another steak at a restaurant again as you find you are always disappointed with them.

FYI - For a perfect medium steak, get a ribeye or scotchy about 40mm thick and cook it at 59Ā° for 2.5hrs. Then sear it.

  • I own one an I'm very happy with it. Being able to cook straight from the freezer is ozbargain friendly hack that lets you freeze and buy lots of quality meat when it's cheap.

There are concerns about the app moving to a paid model, but it doesn't seem to charge anything (yet). You can still use the controls on the device though.
