    Provide an alleged example.

        You're asking others to speculate.

        • I am asking for general consensus through a poll and discussion if keen…

          • @ilsan0: You are being extremely vague.
Provide examples to back up your assertions.

@DoctorCalculon: Mate I don’t have an agenda here. Just curious what other’s thought about something I kinda presumed.

From the poll, I can gauge what is the consensus so all good and can leave it at that…

              • @ilsan0: Please Google "culon" for a revealing inside information.

Don't bother with Cal, culon is the master-key word.

If neg votes are not valid they get removed accordingly by mods though? You can also very easily flag votes that you think need mod attention.

    • It's not difficult to meet the requirements of a 'valid' negative vote though.

  • Why do you think they’re shills rather than just petty and bored, or mentally activist types?
    Or just bad deals…

    • All valid points including mine

A lot of your deals in 2021/22 received a lot of negative votes. Time to move on.

    • +3

      Negative votes are intense. Cheers

This post is not about me or my failures

        Few accounts come to mind,

How do you know which accounts are negative voting? It's anonymous.

  • +6

That's not how "shills" work. But thanks for playing…

    • Please educate

A "shill" is someone who is used to "entice" others into taking part of the action. A shill would be the upvoters of accounts linked to the post/rep/store/manufacturer. They would be making comments like "Oh, I buy from this store. ilsan was so helpful and this deal was the best. I would 100% buy from here!" or some other "positive" related fake review garbage. Sockpuppets are a form of "shill".

Added to that, are you not even going to broach the subject of "upvote" bots? Where it's the same accounts upvoting the same deals? Or how a plastic dog turd can get 36 upvotes, yet another actual helpful item can get 9? there are literally Facebook groups where you can go and sign up for "entrepreneur" classes and the community will help you by upvoting and making positive comments on your advertising on the proviso you do the same for them.

How about the troll upvoters that upvote a post because they know it upsets other users (see any of those Trump Coffee or anti-vax Solar deals or the Uggs Aus posts.)

And I can assure you that there are far more upvoting bots and sockpuppets than there are "neg shills". Negging here takes too much action from users to be bothered when it is easier to have a bot that can just click an "upvote" button without having to make a comment on WHY it's a deal… Unlike "neggers" that have to justify why AND the reason has to be within guidelines… AND these "neggers" have to dodge the "Comment and Voting Volunteer" police units…

If you think a neg is invalid… use the "report" link under their comment and let the mods sort it out.

Thank you for the detailed explanation

see any of those Trump Coffee

We need another one of those without the Trump labelling. It was pretty good coffee.

  • My agenda is good deals.

I'd be happy to offer my downvotes to scalpers though

  • If so then it should be apparent since there are not many negs here anyway - they're more red flags than negs in a popular vote sense, even by design since they need to be justified.

  • nocure was/is a shill for shopping express and their related stores

Highly negged deals are always trash.

I don't think people are making accounts for negging deals, but there has been plenty of sock puppets set up to upvote deals.

  • Shills don't neg posts.

    Shills promote posts.

How can people be this confidently ignorant of commonly used English words? Just type "<word> definition" into Google and you have you answer within half a second.

I've seen instances of obvious behaviour that resemble shilling, but it's uncommon.

    • Hey, thanks for the clarification.
      You are awesome!

    • A shill may also act to discredit opponents or critics of the person or organization in which they have a vested interest

      • Good to lnow

      • Are you using a special dictionary that nobody else uses?

    Whatever happened to mybogho 🤔

    Couldn't source a good shill?

    • No I could not succeed. I tried and I failed. Life goes on!
      No agenda here…

      • Maybe try a better name next time, what on earth does mybogo mean. Sounds like you are selling port a potties.

    Shill be right,mate.

  • -2

Probably but who cares. OZB's shill detection system flags me for upvoting or commenting on staples I order every month that hit the front page.

    • I used to get it all the time for upvoting too many of the same people who just happen to get front page all the time. I vote less now.

there are a lot of woke shills on Ozbargain, wait till an election rolls around and the ALP/Greens die hards spam on every comment

without naming names these are the same people who spammed Bidan won the 1st presidential debate this year against Trump LMAO

Don't forget the massive population of Pro-Russian OzBargainers who came out of the woodwork with the onset of the Ukraine invasion.
