  • What are the advantages to move from XE75 pro to this one?

    • not china
      ssh access
      vlans on wifi
wireguard vpn (which i already have from my glinet brume)
and hopefully more reliable performance with my 30 wifi devices

again. im not entirely convinced of this purchase

    • I just did almost the opposite: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16082544/redir

My XD6 was unstable as hell. Can apparently only handle 40 devices, vs 200 for the XE75. I have had 0 issues with my XE75, and all my Nest camera issues have gone away.

      • :o

how many cameras? is everything on one ssid?
i keep my iot things in the guest network Inc cameras and the rest in the main one.

Mine got patchy at 8 wifi cameras (4 c200, 4 c720) and a whole lot of other devices (abt 35 in total)

i hope i can learn from your config to fix mine up.now i won't actually buy this ebm68 for now.

        • Just 2 cameras. When there were like 10 clips of ~4MB in 10 minutes, it would just get stuck and develop a backlog that wouldn't clear for hours. The signal was strong enough, and after a mesh reboot it would clear. I had 35 devices connected (20 on the main node) and I think it just couldn't handle it. I was constantly rebooting. My 3-node XE75 Pro setup has been rock solid. I'm getting higher speed test results on wifi throughout the house.

As for the China comment: the app says "everything looks good.", so there you go, nothing to worry about :)

  • Transmit / Receive
    2.4GHz 2x2
    5GHz-1 2x2
    5GHz-2 4x4

    WiFi 6 (802.11ax) (2.4GHz) : up to 574 Mbps
    WiFi 6 (802.11ax) (5GHz-1) : up to 2402Mbps
    WiFi 6 (802.11ax) (5GHz-2) : up to 4804Mbps

5GHz-2 will be used for the backhaul (most likely) if you are using wireless backhaul then you're left with 2402Mbps 5GHz-1 fronthaul for the clients and its only 2x2. It can work if you are not fussed about throughputs, have slow internet.

    • how fast throughput do you think is possible?

seems to have more bandwidth than my xe75 for back haul

      • To be honest, I'm not sure but it sure will be less than 2402Mbps due to overheads and depends on how many devvices you connect to that band. You're limited by fronthaul than backhaul. I'm using GT-AX6000 router, its very fast but due to odd shape of my place, some places don't get strong signal. So after evaulating EBM68, XE75 Pro, I decided to get XE200 ($522 on eBay) which will be delivered today (hopefully).

That said, the third band in Wifi 6E routers/mesh is 6Ghz which has short range compared to 5Ghz-2 band in EBM68 which has longer range. If I'm not mistaken, you can't dedicate a specific channel as dedicated backhaul in Tp-link anymore. It will pick one itself, so lets say if it picks 5Ghz then your clients will need to connect to 6Ghz to get full throughput otherwise on 5Ghz, the throughput will be halved (2402Mbps) as it will be used both from backhaul and fronthaul. So catch would be that you should have more 6E devices or fallback to less throughput which is still same as fronthaul on EBM68 even after halving it.

        XE200
        AXE11000
        6 GHz: 4804 Mbps (802.11ax, HE160) (4X4)
        5 GHz: 4804 Mbps (802.11ax, HE160) (4X4)
        2.4 GHz: 1148 Mbps (802.11ax) (4X4)

  • any reason not to iae the cheaper deal at PLC ?
$50?is a fair bit of money

    • idk. i cant be bothered posting one for each shop. this has dropped in price in many shops inc Amazon

      • too lazy to even google before posting, fair enough.

        • well would you have found this item online had it not been for my post?

          • @FoxJump: I'm not interested in one. So I wasn't even looking.

But usually when I buy something, let alone spend the time to post a bargain I at least spend 2mins doing a google search to see if it's cheaper elsewhere..I found it cheaper in about 10secs.

I thought it a bit odd and even odder that you didn't even edit your post to link to a cheaper one which is what most do.

Anyway good luck on your search.

            • @M00Cow: thanks
i initially found it on Amazon then did a search, found it cheaper and posted the cheaper one. maybe my googlefu failed or the PLC one came up afterwards
