Remember when these were the craze? Every post got tonnes of upvotes lol

    • +6

I think power banks are the new eneloop OZB exchange currency.

    • +6

You're an OG if you upvoted for these deals back in 2015. :P
      Eneloops at Dicksmith/Binglee for $12.50/$13

"Click & Collect @ Dick Smith"

      • I think it was this one that I remember as the all time best.
It was a pricing error iirc but it ended up getting honored for 100s of people (me included)

    • Psy op

  • Are these all time lows?

    • +1

the camels say lowest for amazon is $17.50 (regular price not s&s)

  • +4

I think IKEA LADDA(2450Ah for AA/750Ah for AAA) has better value for money. They are also made in Japan. But Eneloop are definitely good batterys. My SANYO Eneloop AAA manufactured in 2006 still work pretty well.

    • -2

2006 still works, no way f*-k off .. really - whats the charge like?

      • Like a G string

      • +4

my eneloops go back to the dick smith shopfront days, still work fine, haven’t measured how much charge they hold compared to new, but not an issue or i would have noticed.

        • my eneloops go back to the dick smith shopfront days, still work fine,

          Same still using them.

      • mine from a similar period are still puilling off 15-20 hours in an xbox controller

    • +5

ladda AAA used to be 900ma now 750ma, the black eneloop AAA is 950ma.

    • +1

isnt it all sold out? i couldnt see any availability unless it was recently restocked

edit: yep all sold out for 2450mAh and the aaa

  • +1

Just bought myself both the AA and AAA sets, cheers OP :)

  • Ooh needed a set of aaa batteries

  • +1

Bought those cheap EBL AAA cells from Amazon thinking they'd be good enough for TV remotes and the like. Nope. Absolute garbage. Tiny capacity and don't hold a charge.

    Lesson learned the hard way.

    • I have a few EBL no issues yet. Only buy on sale though not normal price. Annoyingly a lot of remotes moved to cell batteries now.

      • +1

I picked out a pair yesterday, charged maybe two months ago and they were at 40% just sitting there waiting to be used.

Then they took less than 200mAh each. The 1100mAh capacity is a complete fabrication.

        • Interesting! I cant say i have noticed any major issue like that but i also have not tested, and i charge before putting in a device. Using in xiaomi night lights and stuff like that. I think a few might be in solar garden lights too. Dont suppose you can recommend a cheap option to check charge capacity? Keen to see how mine (1yr old) are and also how my old Eneloops are going!

On a side note i read an article and some reddit posts that recommended "Tenergy" batteries as a decent value alternative and saw them on amazon US. Anyone used them?

          • @Xizor: I have a LiitoKala from AliExpress. It has a nice screen and tells you the charge percentage when you insert the cell, then counts the mAh as it charges. It's a 4x unit that fits up to 18650. It keeps track of each of the 4 cells separately as they charge.

Unfortunately it doesn't have discharge and testing capabilities. But you can guesstimate capacity with some basic math.

Will look into the Tenergy. But might be better of sticking with Eneloop deals or grabbing LADDAs if I ever brave IKEA Perth.

    • Is it worth using rechargeables for low power draw items like remotes? I always thought single-use would be better, but I'll grab some rechargeable AAA's if not

      • +1

Possibly. I just don't like buying and throwing away single use cells. Even if that means replacing them slightly more often.

I have been using a bunch of the old Aldi rechargeables , but they're starting to show their age and Aldi stopped selling them.

  • +4

I find these charge up to around 1.4V even though the specs say 1.2. Pretty close to alkaline 1.5V.

  • damm i got the normal ones when it was on sale but this is btter coz its pro

  • +2

Can you use Ladda charger to charge these?

  • +1

Seems to be ATL for AAA. Grabbed two.

    Thanks OP.

  • What do u guys use to charge these?

    • +4

      I use a NiteCore - they're great.

      • The $50 one? Any of the basic overnight chargers that aren't as fancy?

        • +1

Nitecore are smart chargers, you do not want an overnight charger, you'll ruin your eneloops.

    • +1

Got a LiitoKala from AliExpress. Has a nice screen which tells you exactly how many mAh it has pumped into each cell. Unfortunately, doesn't seem to have a discharge/test function where it drains the battery and then charges it back up to check capacity. That would have been handy.

  • Thanks. Got a 5 month old. Feel like these are going to be required real soon.

    • +2

My 5 month old didn't need batteries but YMMV.

      • Where do you insert the batteries? Lmao

  • +2

The standard eneloops are recommended over these for most devices.

    • what is the difference between standard vs pros? Can I use these for an xbox controller?

      • “Standard Eneloops have a longer cycle life, 2100 cycles vs. 500 cycles for the Eneloop PRO. Standard Eneloops have a longer shelf life. They only lose 30% of their charge in 10 years, while the PRO batteries lose 15% in 1 year.”

        https://eneloop101.com/batteries/eneloop-pro/#:~:text=Standa….

Gamers seem to prefer the Pro’s for controllers.

Pro’s: flash photogrpahy, high output use
Standards: tv remotes, clocks, walkmans, most things

        • Bugger. Assumed these were just bigger capacity and therefore a good deal to add to the stash. Probably should've done more research before buying 2x packs of each on S&S.

  • Can anyone link a good charger too ?

  • Hoping the regular Eneloops also get discounted. I've got some lower drain devices that I only use occasionally, and the Pros have noticeably worse power preservation ie regular loses 30% of their charge in 10 years, while the PRO batteries lose 15% in 1 year.

Does anyone recall if the regulars ever get discounted?

  • -1

I am glad they have subscribe and save. I estimate how long they will last and then throw them out when the new ones come.

    • They need to update the subscribe and save periods to 5 years minimum.

  • Is there a reason we don't hear much people utilising 1.5v rechargeable batteries?

  • +1

I wish eneloops made cr batteries

    • Are rechargeable CR cells a thing? I go through way too many of them in IoT Home Automation gadgets.

      • +2

Yes, rechargeable CR batteries do exist, but have much lower capacity than the non-rechargeable type.

        Examples:

So the non-rechargeable one works for roughly six times longer.

      • +1

I just found the datasheet for that rechargeable battery, and it's worse than I previously thought.

These aren't rechargeable like normal lithium-ion batteries, these have really bad degradation if you take any significant power from them. The datasheet says:

        Charge, Discharge Cycle Lifetime

Discharge Depth of 10% 1,000 (6.5 mAh discharge) (total capacity 6,500 mAh)
Discharge Depth of 20% 300 (13 mAh discharge) (total capacity 3,900 mAh)

So you only get 300 charges out of them, if you draw 13mAh each time, and less cycles the more you draw. That's a tiny usable capacity, compared to the 235mAh of the non-rechargeable.

AA out of stock from Amazon AU

  • -1

Looks like the sale is gone now

  • +3

    Back in stock for me

    • +2

Same, thanks for the heads up!

  • -1

See plenty of eneloop deals on OzB - what is actually good about them?
Are they better than other rechargeable batteries out there?

    • I have eneloops from 2014 they still work as good as new. The only ones that just keep working.

  • -1

Are there type C eneloop batteries?

  • +1

AAA is no longer available at this price

  • Is BYD also making this kind of battery? Hope they join the market to push down the price.

  • I did a quick look and Duracell AA 2500 mAh Rechargeable Battery (Pack of 4) is $15 at amazon

According to Chatdpgt, the Duracell is pretty good alternative, anyone have any experience?

And this youtube tester says its pretty good (4 years old)

  • +1

Did I just miss these? It's boxing day now, but they are back at $27. Ridiculous.
