    • I confused it with TS4. But it is TS4 after all. Maybe it helps someone.

In case anyone wanted to know the difference between the TBT4 vs. TS4.

The dock is $449.90 if you have access to EPP (AOC = no discount).

CalDigitDalton: "The Thunderbolt 4 Pro Dock is developed for and sold exclusively through Apple. It comes in a silver color palette made to match the entire lineup of silver macOS computers. Being sold through Apple, it adheres to their 14 day return policies. The Pro Dock may seem functionally similar to the TS4, sharing the same available ports, but they are separate models with unique firmware and SKUs. The TS4 will continue to be sold through the CalDigit online shop and other major retail channels in its unique Space Grey color, whilst the Pro Dock is available in Apple stores only.

Currently, the Docking Station Utility does not work, nor is there any SuperDrive drivers for the Pro Dock. Both of these are being worked on. Beyond that, I could not say.

The Docking Station Utility is a tool for macOS that lets you eject all connected external storage devices at the same time.

The SuperDrive driver lets the USB ports on the dock provide more power to connected devices if they want it - namely it allows compatibility with the Apple SuperDrive."

Honestly I've not had a need of mine since I moved to a Ultrawide monitor with a USB-C connection. I get its not the same - but if you're getting one mainly for duel monitors and USB A ports (and a single cable to a laptop for data and charging) - then think about using this money to go to something like a new screen with a USB C/PD connection.

ABSOLUTE GARBAGE PRODUCT! Don't believe the YouTuber reviews because they either got paid or were sent the product for free. I hate that about YouTube tech, you don't know what's promotion or what's an actual review.

I bought mine directly from CalDigit store in 2022 and paid around $715 after USD to AUD conversion at the time. Support is non-existent, they stopped replying to my emails when they couldn't resolve the issue. I have 2 x 4k monitors connected, only one runs on 60Hz and the other one runs on 30Hz so that is always jittery. DO NOT BUY!

Your Caps Lock button is stuck. Maybe this is reason why nothing else works.

I appreciate the passion you have for the deal you posted but my experience with it has been great. sorry.

        • -3

I bet the problem is not the dock. Try better cables, another monitor, fresh OS install.

          • +1

@nuker: I have tried everything. The DP cable works with 4k 60Hz, the USB C to HDMI works at 30Hz, tried various cables, converters but all behave the same. If i remove the DP then the single monitor works fine at 60Hz, I am open to hear any suggestions or ideas anyone has because i believe i have tried everything and Caldigit stopped replying to support emails after they requested the log files.

@miura: by the way, my dissatisfaction is not for you because you have posted the deal. I am disappointed with the support by CalDigit. I have always appreciated the OZB communitys' honest feedback and i think other community members have the right to hear someone's feedback who have used the product along with some other great comments by other memebers whose expeirnce with the product has been great.

            • -1

@miura: Stick with DP, not HDMI.

              • @nuker: are you suggesting USB-C to DP dongle for second monitor?

                • -1

@miura: USB-C to DP Cable, get ones with "8K" in name.

                • @miura: I had the same issue with my Dell TB4 dock and looked for solutions for ages. What solved my issue was a USB C to HDMI adapter (not cable) connected to downstream tb4. Then, whenever I want to use the dock, don’t plug the HDMI into the adapter until the other screen is up. I don’t know why, but one Reddit comment recommended it, and it worked for me.

        • 100%, its the cables and support of OS and ports used.
I have the same and runnings 2 32in 4k monitors natively using DP-DP(144hz) and HDMI-USBC(60hz) at their max refresh rates.
Unit is perfectly ok for my use!

    • Working well for me..and it better for the price. Haven't had to use support.

    • Thunderbolt accessories' compatibility (or USB-C one-cable solutions FWIW) has always been a hit and miss. Likely you'll get even worse experience with docks from other brands.

As of display issues, cable is always been a factor. Don't use adapters. Use direct cables (DP->DP, DP->HDMI or USB-C->DP/HDMI) with highest possible rating. Also display output on MacBooks can take a lot of tries to get it right, for example MST never works for daisy chains (to daisy chain a TB monitor is a must), and lower-end chips won't ouptut to multiple displays either at all, or at a downgraded experience.

But not sure if it's a good idea to neg this particular listing, as those who bought this Apple-exclusive dock would eventually reach out to Apple for support instead of CalDigit who's from the other side of the pond, and they may have a better experience in contrast to yours.

  • Be careful when considering this model- the 'Thunderbolt 4 Pro Dock' is a completely different SKU to the relatively well-regarded 'Thunderbolt Station 4'; granted there's very little information available to clarify how they might differ exactly (aside from this one being Apple-exclusive, more silvery-white vs. space-grey, and like 150 bucks cheaper compared to the TS4), but anecdotal reports seem to indicate the Pro Dock has been tuned for better compatibility with Apple hardware and may be somewhat behind the TS4 in terms of driver updates. Which would make me very nervous if I were dropping $500 on this as a Windows user.

  • My precious

Geeez Apple charge whatever they want! Sad part is Apple fans keep paying it. It's like they're hypnotised to keep paying and upgrading (even though there's not much of an upgrade (talking iphones there)).
    Shame shame.

The irony of this comment when it’s one of the rare times a product is cheaper because it’s made for apple products.

  • I don't understand why you say this is the king of docks? What am I missing.
I use the HP 280w G4 Thunderbolt 4 dock and it seems to have much better specs than this and is marginally cheaper too.
This has a few more usb ports than the HP but it can't provide as much power over PD (98w vs 140w), can't drive as many displays (2x 4k @60hz vs 4x 4k @60).

    • This has card readers :)
But thanks, digesting this now, will report back.
USB ports are 10Gbps, on G4 only one is, and many more ports on TS4. TS4 has audio too, Im stopping here, docks are hard to compare.

    • CalDigit's TS series docks are the only few models uses PCIe-based ethernet which is superior on harsh conditions (more throughput and better stability, also better CPU offload). Almost all other docks, even if they're Thunderbolt docks, uses USB-based ethernet, for better compatibility with non-Thnderbolt devices.

CalDigit become YouTuber's favourite (and their reviews are absolutely skewed because of their identity) is because many features are designed for video editors or photographers (better Apple compatibility, proprietary software for the dock and high-speed card readers) but may or may not useful for the other 90% of people who may also need a dock for Mac, Windows and Linux.

  • This seems like a downgrade ? I have the tb3 one and it supports 2x ultra wides perfectly fine and 10gbe network . Odd they scaled back to 2.5gb .

  • thunderbolt is a standard, this device works with windows/linux. cheaper and faster shipping from apple, than other vendors. it's just a different colour, but not much different.

  • I'm using CalDigit's ElementHub instead of TS4 (or similar) as it's a more flexible setup when paired with different kind of adapters, like USB for peripherals, one of 3 TB ports for daisy chains of displays, and other TB ports for high-speed accessories like 10GbE networking, 40Gb/s SSDs or TB CFExpress readers.

TS4 is a set and forget option for the masses but can be limiting and expensive when you needs are a bit niche and extreme.

  • How did this compare to iVanky Fusion Dock Max? Which one Is better?

    • Wanky what?

  • This, or a whole-ass NUC with Thunderbolt 4 for the same price hmmmm
