Cashback Approval Delay with Miracle Ending

I wanted to share an interesting experience with my Lenovo cashback via Cashrewards.

About six months ago, I purchased a Lenovo laptop during the EOFY sales through CR. The cashback was quite generous at around 14%, but it was initially rejected with the standard explanations:

  • Transaction being fully or partially refunded
  • Transaction attributed to a different channel
  • Using a non-approved coupon
  • Not complying with store terms

None of these applied to my purchase, so I opened a support ticket. CR rep responded saying it was rejected by Lenovo without any visible reason. Their only option was to set it back to PENDING and follow up with Lenovo.

Here's where things got interesting. After a few months of no movement, a second transaction appeared next to the PENDING one - slightly smaller amount, also PENDING. Both transactions just sat there for months. Then, to my surprise, the second transaction was actually approved! It took nearly 6 months for the cashback to finally come through. Quite funny that a purchase made during EOFY sales had its cashback arrive just before Xmas!

Has anyone else experienced delayed approvals like this, or is this just a lucky Christmas story?

    Great outcome. I've only had one issue with using Cashrewards over the years. Purchase made from the Sony Online Store on 20/06/22 with an estimated approval date of 20/09/22. It was still pending by the estimated approval date so on 27/09/22 I lodged a ticket with Cashrewards and received a response that it would be followed up. I followed up again on 26/11/22 and on 02/12/22 received a response from Cashrewards that they'd escalate it and follow up.

    On 20/12/22 it still hadn't been resolved so I PMed the former Cashrewards Rep on here (tightarse) and within 30 of me sending the PM, he responded confirming it was approved. Fantastic service from the Rep. Frustrating though that it took 6 months and was only resolved by going directly to the Rep.

    • I found CR has turned to either quick approval or never approval mode.
