This is the lowest price I've seen for this popular COSRX's product, suitable for use on those with congested pores including blackheads and acne - not everyone needs this. It contains betaine salicylate, which is a gentler beta hydroxy acid (BHA) than salicylic acid. BHA's are oil soluble, so they can get into pores and help loosen any oily 'plugs'. It also contains 2% niacinamide. The texture is like thick water that has a bit of slip, and it is hydrating as well.

It is recommended to only use this 2-3 times a week between cleansing and moisturising. Please listen to your skin as everyone's skin is different - if you see any signs of irritation, flaking, redness, you may have to use less frequently. If you have very sensitive skin, you may need to seek alternative products with lower percentages of BHA. And don't mix this with other irritating ingredients (Vit C, retinol) one after the other unless you are experienced and know what your skin can handle.

Some people who can't tolerate Paula's Choice's 2% BHA find that they can use this.

Always use sunscreen as acids can increase your skin's sensitivity to sun damage. (You should be using sunscreen daily anyway).

  • Does it work?

    • Can it remove 10yo blackhead?

Yeah bleach can do it. For best result don’t dilute it with water.

Chemistry person here. It works, but… maybe not for you.

The active ingredient works by breaking down the top layer of skin. Lots of chemicals do that. OP mentions others in the post. It can be good for dissolving or etching off stuff from your skin, almost like sandpapering off old paint. Maybe your elderly relatives use a cream on the tough thicken calloused skin on their heels. Different chemical, same purpose.

It's called a keratolytic (keratin lysis/lytic= sexy science words for skin and digestion, respectively). It can only dissolve the top layers of skin because those are dead, it cannot do anything to the lower layers of skin. A black head is when a hair follicle (pore, or a hole) is blocked, so slightly dissolving the edges of the skin hole can remove the blockage. Kind of like WD-40 loosening two pieces of metal rusted together.

It won't dissolve lower layers of skin but it can irritate the (profanity) out of it. Itchy red rash develops, makes you more sensitive to getting your skin burnt by UV too. So your don't want too much, or having it on too long, or using it too frequently, using other keratolytic chemicals, mixing other products.

In Australia it's regulated to a maximum concentration of 4%.

Another common skin cream chemical that does the same thing is salicylic acid. Sometimes seen in wart remover Over The Counter (OTC) products. That has a maximum concentration of 2%.

The active ingredient in this is literally half as strong as salicylic acid. Max 4% versus max 2%. Wow, what an amazing coincidence.

The reason to choose this is it's you are less likely to do all the bad things like too much, too long, too often. It's like a car with a maximum speed of 50km/h. Teenagers are (profanity) stupid. We need to give them quarter or half strength cause they do all the dumb things like not following the instructions on the product that is dissolving their skin. Skin care TikTok is nasty, we have to design idiot-proof products with safety rails that fit how they want to use it (daily, low strength, extra layer on break out days).

It's cheap enough. Use it 3 times over a week and see how it goes. It either works, it doesn't, or you get an itchy rash that requires a hydrocortisone cream for a day. Then I get to sell you two products.

        Cheers

So it's like a very mild chemical peel?

      • +4

        Very detailed. Thanks.

So I can save money and use WD40?

        • WD is versatile 😁

        • Save even more and use the home brand water dispersent

      • I think there's a chemistry between us!

      • This is why I love ozb, great detailed comment

      • So if I already use liquid gold, by alpha h arguably I don’t need this right?

        • So if I already use liquid gold, by alpha h

Is that liquid gold by alpha h worth it?

          • @Ughhh: I LOVE it! So good. Wish I found it sooner

          • @Ughhh: I also got it quite cheap from tk max

            • @Ricketytruck: Yeh I saw it at tk max. I was contemplating getting it, but given I already have TO glycolic and mandelic acid, I probably dont need/shouldnt get it yet until I finish what I have, unless the liquid gold is not a competing product and/or much superior.

      • I'd pay full price for this comment.

      • The order to apply this, is cleanser, this product, and then moisturizer?

      • Your not chemist your pharmacist.

I find none of these work. I have really large pours, and I just use one of those electronic pore vacuum tools to clean mine. It does suck out quite a lot. Quite gross. Probably sunscreen or moisturiser that gets trapped inside mostly.

I use salicylic acid from The Ordinary after using it.

If there is a way to reduce size of nose pours without surgery, I am keen to hear your experiences.

    • +1

Which pore vacuum do you use?

I had large pores but since i started using tretinoin and niacinamide, pores have shrunk more than 70%.

I also use revolution skin care AHA/BHA every few days on those pore areas for control

Nice, thanks for the tip. I'll do a bit more research.

The one I got was via Amazon US. It's really good and charge lasts 4 or more months between charges. Only takes about 15 seconds and the entire head will have collected so much gross stuff. Strong suction, just don't stay in same spot for too long, have a bit of blood out of pore if you do).

      • +1

Also, also can you tell me which products you use re tretinoin and niacinamide?

        • +1

          The ordinary niacinamide
Tretinoin i get it from overseas (dubai) when relatives/friends pass through, its about $5 a tube

    • have you tried micro needling?

    • when it rains, it pours

  • hmm Paula seemed to have a klitchen full of remedies she must look better than Cher at 89
