Looks more like shear than a traditional trimmer.
I wonder what it’s goof for…
They are useful for very small grass areas where a mower would be too much. Some people find them useful for edging in some circumstances (against garden beds).
I use mine to cut under the trampoline, as my 36V mower won't fit under it.
There is a hedger trimmer attachment available as a spare part for ~$55 that turns it into a very small hedge trimmer.
It comes with a 2Ah 18V battery, which is useful.
Please be very careful if using these for edging….
tis the season to be jolly
They pricetag has (edit: I meant) shears on it, yeah.
OP Large yellow tickets are store specific discounts. Large orange are nationwide. So please specify store.
I think can see the flaw in this thing. It needs to be held at just the right angle. Too low and it digs into the ground, too high and it cuts too high. It should really have 2 axles.
I have this trimmer and it’s absolute trash. Used it probably 3 times. Doesn’t cut very well at all.
I agree. It's not great.
I would only buy it if you don't have any alternative options. $49 is good value though.
Would it be something a brazilian might use?
So this is just an electric scissors?
More like hair clippers, but for grass.
Ah right, I see it now. Seems like a very niche product. Surely you can just normal scissors.
Yes. These are an electric version of grass shears.
Speaking from personal experience, don't use mum's "good" scissors though
I have the Ryobi 36V Edger and Line Trimmer. Very good lawn tools.
Agreed. The 36v edger is an outstanding bit of kit…
The 36v line trimmer is one of my most favourite items. Use it for edging too instead of using a blade edger and it's perfect.
Very versatile tool
I've found it works well on some thicker grass rather than really fine stuff
My cylinder mower doesn't cut right up to my retaining wall, leaving a 60mm strip of un-mowed lawn. Using a whipper snipper just tears the grass blades and makes it look rubbish. I use these shears to cut that 60mm strip and for that purpose they are fantastic.

Sounds like you aren't using it properly.
Sounds like you don't have any idea how a reel mower cuts a blade of grass.
No I really do, it's a skill issue for you. Keep practicing champion you'll get it.
See my problem with using a whipper snipper is that if I'm trimming close to the garden bed, the resulting grass will get flung into the garden bed which I'm trying to avoid.
I'm assuming if I use these near the edge the grass will just fall straight down and not into the bed right?
Do you get down on your hands and knees to do this or do you use the caddy?
Just in time to get your charismas bikini line in order!
waiting for ryobi leaf blower
THats pretty good deal. Mine in Edwardstown SA was $99 which is very underwhelming
$99 was the clearance price for my store. From experience every store has different prices on the same item,
what is the point of these… why not just buy a lawn mower???
its a alternative to a line trimmer or edger. If you have a concrete path that's slightly at a different height to your lawn, you will need one of the 3 tools.
oh ok, this just sounds like more work. i hate cutting my grass with a passion. just like Anikin says I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere" i say, I dont like mowing grass, its tough, it grows back and is annoying"
Maybe you have a small grass area and don’t have the space to store a lawn mower.
Maybe there’s somewhere your mower can’t go (e.g. under a trampoline).
cheap price for 2ah battery and charger
I think I’m going to buy one just for the battery, luckily it’s my local store as well
Make sure you call up first and see if they still have em!
The shears are 119 by themselves, but missing an attachment.
anyone know whether ryobi always keeps the kit deals up for most of the year. Especially for the 36V line trimmer and blower kit https://www.ryobi.com.au/products/line-trimmers/36v-3338cm-l… Sadly out of stock or would they replace it with another 36V kit (unlikely to be brushless)
the 18V trimmer and blower kit just snags and the blower is like blowing through a straw for even medium gardens or artificial grass debris blowing.
which store?
