  • 28 variants is pretty wild

I can imagine Gordon Ramsey telling Nike you need to make your menu simple you Muppets

    • There are two sub versions of metcon. One standard colours and one with crazy patters.

      • +1

When my family comes over for xmas gathering….theres always a crazy patter and our dogs love it

  • Having a look at the description these work for lifts and squats but can they be used for running or is it recommended to get another shoe for that?

    • +15

Lifting shoes and running shoes are completely different. Lifting you want a hard, fixed sole. Running you want a bouncy soft sole.

      • Yes fundamentally you are correct but I want to clarify for the uninitiated that these are essentially CrossFit shoes without the name meant to strike a balance between lifting (mostly) and running (occasionally, inside strength workouts) and they do a good job in my opinion.

Don’t go out and buy these purely for running or expect to run a marathon a week and be comfortable, but if you are running a k or 5k maybe twice or three times a week inside other strength work, these are perfect for that. (Along with the Reebok nano’s for the same price posted yesterday)

But yeah if you are just running, get running shoes.

        • +3

These are not perfect for running, any running. Or walking for that matter. That's not true at all!

Metcon are very hard under foot and have lateral support suitable for lifting, they offer no allowance for the impact of walking / running on the feet and body.

          • +2

@FXx: I don’t think you are getting the concept of lifting and running.

As I said, these aren’t running shoes.

            • +4

@Larsson: No, you just said these are perfect for someone running 5k twice or three times a week. No matter what else said shoes are used for, that's terrible advice, and I'd suggest you have very little idea on the topic.

              • -3

@FXx: but if you are running a k or 5k maybe twice or three times a week inside other strength work.

I think you need to do a better job reading.

But I think we both agree, if you are just running, these are not good.

                • +3

@Larsson: Sorry these aren't for any sort of running even within a wod. Lifting weights only. Even walking around Coles after the gym is not the best in these.

        • What is example of good shoe just for weights lifting?

          • +1

@ATTS: Romaleos, legacy lifters, adipowers and a whole bunch more that’s hard to impossible to find in Australia like Asics 727s

      • What if I do both running and lifting during the same workout?

        • +3

          These, the Nano's or NoBull's

        • +2

Don't get these if you're a heel striker. The heels are rock hard but the forefoot it pretty decent for a lifting and running workout. I am a 12 years CrossFitter and a coach so I'm pretty familiar with them.

        • Get the nike metcon free

        • +2

Don't get these. You'll be better off using runners and taking them off when lifting weights (legs).

          • @FXx: In my opinion (and many gym and federation rules and guidelines) bad idea, both safety, stability and position wise.

    • They seem to be super stiff. Not good for proper running.

    • +4

Own the 7s which are pretty similar. They're ok for short sprints if your doing HIIT or something but anything else I'd swap out to dedicated running shoes. The rear heel is solid plastic essentially. They're kinda bad for a lifting shoe and a bad for a running shoe but ideal if you go between the two frequently like HIIT/Crossfit is how id look at it.

      • +2

I trained a lot in the M7's when they were current model (and also while the M8's were current as I preferred the 7's), and now train in the M9's. I agree with your opinions from a M7 standpoint, but M9 is a massively different shoe IMO. The heel of the 9 is almost as stiff as an oly/lifting shoe, making it great for lifting but terrible for running.

      • I wouldn't say they are bad lifting shoes. Sure they are not going to have a heel drop like a pair of Romaleos but some people won't need them. There is even a Japanese elite weightlifter who compete in Metcons.

    • +1

I've only tried these on but imagine they are horrible for running. I got the metcon frees instead for gym movements with a lil sprinting mechanics/agility stuff thrown in - perfect shoe for that imo.

      • You'd be right. Horrible for running but that's because it's not what they were designed for. Metcon Frees however are great and strike a great balance of stability for lifting and flexibility for running.

        • No running in the metcons mate

      • +1

I'm with you. I use both Free Metcon 6 and Metcon 9s depending on the workout.

    • +1

I have a few pairs of Metcon 9s now (I like to alternative). My favourite gym shoe. However, they are NOT good for running (or even walking any distance). I change into them at gym otherwise I think the hard sole would ruin my knees over time.

    • I would honestly prefer to run in bare feet.

  • I have the Metcon 8's and just purchased a new pair of 9s today.

I do a mix of general lifting and cardio in my gym sessions and these have performed well for me. Good stability when doing squats and leg presses and ok for my treadmill walking. they are stiff (good for lifting) so I wouldnt say they are good for running.

They have a nice wide toe box which is great for wide footers like me and also good for general stability when lifting.

    • How do you find the sizing on the 9s compared to the 8s? Did you buy the same size?

      • I've been using Metcons since the 2's and always been an M8.5, except for the 8's where I found they were too small and had to size up to a 9.

      • Different toebox on the 9s - toebox on 9s a lot wider. I have a wide foot, so in previous variations of metcons I’ve worn a size 11, but on these metcon 9s I’ve sized down to 10.5 and very comfortable.

The second most ugliest thing ever seen!

    • +16

Is the first what you see in the mirror?

  • Where can I get a 10% discount on Rebel gift cards?

  • Are these good for walking? Is the heel support on a softer side on these?

    • +1

Get a pair of running shoes if you want to use them for walking.

    • +1

Rock hard .. terrible for walking. Mainly for squats like weight lifting shoes.

      • Thanks Matt. Not getting this one then. Cheers

  • +1

Damn this is a good price, but already bought a shoe recently

    • +12

      what about the other foot?

  • What does Metcon mean

    • +1

      Metabolic Conditioning I think

    • +2

      Metropolitan conservative, it's demure

    • +2

      probably Meteorite Control

  • +1

What's up with that big patch on the side of the 9's? ugly af imo. The women's 6's look better than the men's

    • +3

So they don't get destroyed on rope climbs AFAIK. There a pretty specific shoe, built for pretty specific cults, I mean exercise franchises, I mean #CFFamily.

      Very resistant to rhabdomyolysis too.

    • The rubber patch works well for rope climbs / anything where you’re pressing or rubbing your foot against something. I also find it protects the shoes from straps when strapping into a row machine or cycle or air bike. So they’re definitely practical.

      • +1

Practical except for walking and running. Rock hard for obvious reasons.

        • +1

Yes definitely not for running, and I cringe when I see people wearing them for runs. But then again I cringe when I see people lifting (eg squats) in running shoes with giant cushioned soles!

  • Metcon free 5 are my fav

  • Anyone jnow what have to Metcon React’s? I loved those but I think it’s discontinued

    • Love this however, most sizes are OOS.

  • +2

Just a warning for everyone.. these are not suitable for running or even walking. They are very biased to the weight lifting, so great for squats.. but even grocery shopping after gym is uncomfortable.

    • +2

Agreed. They are specifically gym shoes. I wear my usual runners to gym and change into these when I’m doing weightlifting and then change back into the runners on the way out. Means the Metcons last forever and even after a year - look brand new!

    • Sneaking in a choccy milk as protein … Or is that just me?;-)

      • +1

Haha .. always a good excuse for a chocolate protein milk. So, yes, you're correct :)

  • +1

Gymgoer and podiatrist here - Like the previous comments, the metcons have a stiff sole, great for lifting weights when doing leg day. They are uncomfortable for running and for everyday shoes.

If you have one of these, to make it more comfortable, get an off-the-shelf orthotic. Such as "Formthotics", plus it gives you added arch support.

Nike members sale with 40% off at the moment until 24th.

    Much cheaper than this deal

    • +1

How much and how fo you get 40%?

      I’m a Nike.com member and don’t see any 40% off offer.

      • Go to your Nike app and check your old messages .. 40% off the cheap discounted factory outlet orders .. the Metcons were about $100 less 40%, so about $60-70 .. they do this pretty regularly .. get ready for 30 mins checkout queue lol
