Have been browsing for a cheap Cricut deals in the last few days and noticed that Spotlight dropped the price to $499 BUT also noticed that Officeworks had it cheaper at $489. So naturally I ended up going to Spotlight and getting a 10% off price beat. The girl at the counter easily honored the price eat without checking Officeworks stock.
If considering this, need to be aware the the matless cutting feature only works with cricut brand vinyl which is much more expensive than other alternatives.
What's the reason for that compatability? I've got a super old silhouette cutter that I use for making vinyl graphics from time to time, but it's about one software update from becoming unusable so I'm half interested in replacement options.
Being limited in vinyl choice would bea deal breaker though - I've got a stack of nice signwriters vinyl that I just cut to fit the width of the feed on the desktop cutter, wouldn't want to give that up.
Basically the cricut machine needs you to use their own "Smart vinyl" if you want to cut without a mat. Their vinyl has a thicker backing than normal vinyl that acts as a mat when cutting without a mat.
In contrast I have the silhouette cameo 5 which can pretty much cut anything you put in there.
Good to know. I normally just grab avery or aslan vinyl from GAmart and the old silhouette SD has never had any issues so sounds like if I do replace it, sticking with a new silhouette is the way to go.
