Fresh. Ok.
Man that other woolies deal is cooked
How cooked can be fresh?
Most prawns are boiled and snap frozen on board.
Now I haven't worked at Coles for something like 30 years, but I was there when they first got "Fresh Prawns", and they all come in off the trucks frozen. I worked in receiving accepting the deliveries, and also in Deli where we had to get them in the cases at like 5-6am so they were "fresh" enough for open, eg defrosted.Probably the only way to get guaranteed fresh prawns these days is to go down to the harbours and buy them off the smaller operators who come back into port every day.
The big operators head out for weeks at a time when the prawns are on and work from a mother ship that does the cooking and freezing.Edit: I just noticed these are farmed. They are also cooked and frozen on site and sent out frozen.
Edit2: Prawns cooked and snap frozen aren't the worst things. Probably what 99% of people know as prawns. It's the dodgy people (including Coles) who refreeze them after defrosting that ruin them. Frozen once, not the worst thing. Frozen twice, they turn into mushy, stinky prawns.
Thanks, will be there later might grab some for dinner if there’s some left.
