@Mr Bob Dobalina: Yeah it is but the new expansion has a new mode with different ages that starts at the stone age and goes to the metal age or something. I only played it once but it was fun.

Keep playing ranked until you settle on an ELO where you play against similar players and win 50% of the games :)
The starting rank is way to high for beginners and you usually have to lose 5-10 games before you're in the right spot (I know, it sucks, but it stops smurfs)
@The Wololo Wombat: I did that. Settled at 800 elo. Then stopped playing for half a year. Have had to go through the process again as everyone at that elo is now way better than me! I reckon I'm destined for 400 at this rate

This game has gotten so good even after 25 years, the online community seems to be bigger than ever now. Excellent DLCs too.
If anyone is curious, look up T90Official or Dave_AoE for interesting top level gameplay
What about Hera?
He's the way to go for the best tutorials and the highest level gameplay. I personally don't find him the most entertaining person but he's also a great shout if the antics of T90 and Dave aren't your speed / taste
@tassietigermaniac: T900's Low Elo Legends content is so entertaining too. Low level gameplay is arguably more engaging haha.

AOE2 is probably the greatest RTS of all time alone with Starcraft and C&C Red Alert
Generals was the peak.
There is no way a large developer would get away with launching a new title like that again with controversy.
There's no way a large developer would ever release a game again only on PC and not on console. And that's a sad thing.
The new expansions are so good. They have one where you start at the stone age with all different buildings and troops.
