Good choices, you could save around $100 though on the CPU cooler since Noctua tax is absurd. Thermalright PS120SE is $63.90 on Amazon AU and has almost identical performance.

Looks good to me. I've just finished a build and the decision making can be painful. You could also save some $'s on the storage. Isn't the evo range cheaper than the pro? I'm certain I paid $198 for a 2tb 970 Evo. I'll have to check. If it's just for gaming you don't need super super fast storage.

Don't spend $899 on a 4070, when you can get a good performance increase with the 4070 Super for that amount or slightly more.

would it be worth waiting for the RTX 5000 series to be released?

I would, historically that meant a drop in price for previous gen cards. (But it didn't for the last couple of gens with all the COVID/Crypto craziness, so you never know).

Your build is powerful and balanced. The Ryzen 7 7700X and Samsung 980 Pro are excellent, but the 4070 is slightly overpriced.Consider the 7800 XT or 4070 Ti for better value, and the Noctua NH-U12A cooler if you’re not overclocking. Downloading Windows 11 digitally can save costs, and ensure the Corsair 4000D has enough fans.

    Excellent start, a few notes

    • I definitely agree with the previous comments to avoid the Noctua tax and get this Thermalright
    • Samsung PRO is not the best value SSD, you will get similar real world performance with this Kingston KC300
    • I would go for a 850W PSU (for another $20 or so) to open up your future GPU upgrade opportunities and not feel power limited.
    • Use the money saved from the cooler and SSD to get a better GPU, also the 4070 @ $900 is not great value as per comments above
