Are they able to be calibrated by the user? If so, how?
If not, how much is it to get them calibrated? And where?

If they can’t be calibrated at all, then they’re a complete waste of $199

  • -1

Yes, the Andatech GT can be calibrated yearly to ensure accuracy.
Visit the office at 9 Trade Place, Vermont, or book online. Cost: $49.50.

Just don’t drink and drive and save $300 bucks a year. What’s the point of this device it just literally states the obvious

      • -4

Yeah. If you think you might not be - or gotta check to see if you are - able to drive, then you just shouldn't be driving.

      • +6

I bought one at Harvey Norman and I used to have out at the front door at parties I had. If someone looked too intoxicated, I’d get them to test themselves before they left so they would leave the driving to someone else. Some people need to be shown/ told unfortunately.

      • Totally agree—if in doubt, don’t drive. But for those uncertain moments, a device like this can help people double-check and stay safe.

    • calibrated yearly

The link to the product appears to say every six months.

You ship it to them, you pay for having it shipped back, plus $49.50 for the service.

      • Good catch! Calibration is recommended every six months for heavy use, but for personal use, once a year is usually fine.

What a great Christmas gift for my entire family.
    Bought 10, thanks.

I read this as Anandtech. 😟 Then wondered if it was a fuel cell powered by alcohol breath.

    • +1

Close guess! The fuel cell is actually the sensor that gives accurate BAC readings—not powered by alcohol, though. 😄

  • -2

The roadside breath testing devices are used aby the cops as indicators, the actual tests are done back at copshops with a precise scientific grade devices, which are calibrated daily.

So this thing is neither reliable nor accurate. You will not be able to rely on it. Also where is the original price?

No deal this is just an ad. Reported

    • +1

Hey Serious Lee, thanks for your comment! You’re right—police use more advanced equipment for official testing. Still, the Andatech GT is designed for personal use with a high-quality fuel cell sensor, providing reliable results for those ‘just in case’ moments. It’s not meant to replace law enforcement devices. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts

    • Reported for what? Misinformation, scam, price gouging? None of those, so maybe you need to look in the mirror and report yourself for being a Richard Head.

    • It literally states the original price in the header.

Although I have a different brand, these are useful for checking the morning after, or if you're out to dinner and have a couple, country drives calling into a pub for lunch etc. I keep mine in the car. With BAC varying quite a bit depending on what you've eaten and you often cant judge your BAC, particularly low levels, by the way you feel. I find these devices to be good for peace of mind/safety check. Sure i wouldnt say they're 100% accurate, but they're good enough so you can see if you're over, under or near the limit - and re-test after 15 mins or so to see if the reading is going up or down - then make a decision to drive (or use heavy machinery etc etc) or not.

Also useful for people on P licenses, especially the morning after a big night!

For people saying just dont drink, there's a BAC limit for a reason, because many people like to have a drink. That's cool if you dont, but dont try and force your beliefs/values on others.

      Bingo

    • -1

There’s bigger questions to ask oneself if needing to check BAC the morning after.

      • Such as what? I think your comment is both pious and needless. You do you, let them do them.

    • Exactly! These devices are great for checking your BAC after a few drinks or the morning after. While not 100% perfect, they give a good indication so you can decide whether it's safe to drive. BAC limits are there for a reason, and it's all about making smart choices for safety. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  • It's cheaper and safer just not to drink at all.

    • +2

Man, if you don't like drinking that's totally fine - but wouldn't you rather someone who does drink be safe about it by using something like this?

You sound like a Vegan pushing your opinion on to others lol

      What a pointless comment

    • That’s one perspective, but for many, it’s about responsible drinking or even giving up the car completely if needed. A breathalyser helps make safer choices without having to give up alcohol or driving entirely. 😊

  • Not getting one myself. But curious on how off these are when people say they are inaccurate?

E.g are they good enough to show 0.01 when near 0.05 BAC? (Even if it's +-, then obviously don't drive). Yeh I saw the spec sheet, but figured that was obviously ideal conditions.

    • You're right! These devices are quite accurate, typically within 10%. For example, they might show 0.055 or 0.045 when you're actually at 0.050. The police units have similar accuracy, but their sensors are built to handle more wear and moisture

What happened to shaming drink drivers?

    • A lot of people enjoy a good glass of wine with a nice meal, and just like a speed camera or parking ticket, most mistakes are unintentional

  • Could you please explain what "GT" in the product name stands for, also what "Fuel cells" are being referenced. Thanks.

    • Grand Tourer edition, when you go on a massive pub crawl with a heap of mates maybe?

    • As for 'fuel cells,' they’re the type of sensor used in the breathalyser. They are commonly used in professional-grade devices

I got an Andatech unit years ago. I get it calibrated every year and its gotten plenty of use. Its really accurate and I highly recommend it. Its like insurance for your licence (and reputation if you end up in a prang and over the limit). Particularly the morning after a huge night like a wedding. Its amazing how much your BAC varies depending on what you have eaten or how much water you have had… One day you can drink 2 pints and be under, and the next you might be over with just 1.

    • Thanks for the awesome feedback, Stivo! You're right—BAC can vary depending on food, water, and even how much sleep you’ve had. Having a breathalyser gives peace of mind after a big night out. Glad to hear it’s been serving you well!

  • I got a AlcoSense Verity when the kids to their P's last year. Not worth risking the morning after the night before - especially with zero BAC requirement.

My friends and I also use it when we've had dinner together and a few wines. Calibrate every six months. Cheaper than an interlock device..
