Which Mobile Phone Carrier?

hi all, i'm looking to get a new mobile phone for my elderly grandmother who lives with me.

this is my current situation: broadband internet + homeline phone are both with Telstra. i have a prepaid mobile phone that's with Optus. i just wanted to know the best deal i could get for the new mobile phone. if i joined telstra and got on a monthly plan, would i get a discount for the internet and home phone? should i get a telstra pre-paid? should i get an optus prepaid? do they have free calls from optus pre-paid to optus pre-paid?

i haven't looked into what deals are available in a long time so i don't know what i should get.

thanks. any help would be really appreciated!

I swear most of your questions can be easily answered if you did your own research, instead of getting others to do it for you. eg "do they have free calls from optus pre-paid to optus pre-paid?"

Get this one * points *

  • If you choose to join Optus prepaid you can choose a plan that has "Optus to Optus Credit"
Essentially you get a LIMITED amount of free calls to other Optus mobile numbers

  • Vaya are the current favourites for low use plans (the $7 and $11 a month plans look suitable).

Get a cheap unlocked handset from Coles or Woolies, whatever is on special.
Other cheap options for low use:

    • Crazy John's prepaid has long validity recharges and cheapish call rates, if you don't mind vodafone network
    • TPG has a $1 a month plan that would work out cheapest if she rarely makes calls. I know my parents would make 2 or 3 mobile calls a month, so a cap plan is a waste of money.
  • $15 off When You Purchase Woolworths Mobile Sim Card, Recharge and Fuel in One Transaction

If you are not quite up with installing gran on either Skype / Voip system, then those pre-dated cards [works out $9 pm effectively, offered until Jan] comes pre setup with some $500 of conventional +5G.

  • kogan, telstra 3G coverage and just $299 for unlimited + 6gb. Just put sim into an unlocked mobile or even try a telstra prepaid (untested).

for adsl if 6gb isnt enough try LOGITEL unlimited adsl2+ for $49.95 a month on any T$ exchange
