IPTV Box Being Sold at Local Colombian Market

And after perusing through a local market I found a vendor selling plug and play device's like this, which after the vendor demonstrated, appears to allow access to a plethora of channels, movies and TV shows for free and gets regularly updated. By all means it appears to be a pirate device.

Selling for around $60, thoughts on if this is worth it and how it actually works?

Make sure you get free headphones with it.

  • Product quality is nothing to stiff at…

Their TV box might work, yours might not. I remember as a kid I carefully chose a VHS from a wet market seller, got home and the tape was f'n blank. As a 8yo I was pretty devastated 😂

Columbia is known for its stimulating products (like coffee…), not its electronic devices.

Personally, I’d just search the product code and go from there regarding reliability etc and then purchase online if wanted.

Markets can be a big gamble.

*Colombia. Spell it properly, if you’re trying to be funny. Racist much? So you’re saying all 55 million people or whatever it is are cocaine producers? Have you ever even been there?

Name starts with El so they are an expert on all things Latin American.

        TIL Columbians are a race.

        Thanks for the spelling lesson.

So you’re saying all 55 million people or whatever it is are cocaine producers?

        No.

Have you ever even been there?

        Yes.

My god, people can be so precious these days…

I looked at similar stuff before. They’re good but there’s a very big but which is that the company who supplied the box can pull their services from the market, ‘usually for copyright infringement, so the services are ceased and you’re left with a useless box.

I wouldn’t get it. They’re great things to have when they work but there’s no guarantee how long they will work for

They exist here too. It’s basically a subscription to an app that has daily updated content from torrents and live TV capture.

You can either buy a box like this or just download an appropriate app on your smart TV/stick. You don’t need a box from Colombia.

    • What sort of stuff would I need to do specifically?

I don't want the app on the tv as the TV is slow as is

    • Absolutely. You just need the app and a password.

  • It will be a shitty Android box (unlikely to be even be Android TV so a little clunkier than a Chromecast/FireTV ) with the usual piracy apps installed. If you're 'lucky' there may be a (short-lived) IPTV sub on there but generally they just have the usual 'free' piracy apps - KODI, Cloudstream etc.

    Chatbuddy says:

Several countries have intensified their crackdown on IPTV boxes and illegal streaming services in recent years due to copyright violations and organized crime concerns.

Italy: Authorities have been particularly aggressive, dismantling networks servicing hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Recent actions include raids on providers and those facilitating piracy infrastructure, with the Guardia di Finanza targeting suspects across multiple regions

Argentina: Law enforcement recently shut down a large-scale IPTV service operating with tens of thousands of subscribers and generating millions in revenue

These efforts are often spearheaded by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), alongside local law enforcement. Using such services poses risks, including malware exposure and abrupt loss of access if platforms are seized. Legal alternatives are recommended to avoid legal and cybersecurity risks.

For 80 bux you could give it a shot and if the empire strikes back at some point then it's no huge loss.

Or order it from The Good Guys, could worth the wait.

  • I've never heard of a "Colombian market".

    Is it a thing?

I've heard of Latin markets. But not ones that are specific to a particular Latin-American country.

Actually its not the OP that couldn't spell, it was whoever named Colombia after Columbus. Its the only place named after him that doesn't spell its name the same as he did. British Columbia. District of Columbia. Columbus Ohio. Etc, etc. The only other place that uses the "o" spelling is Colombo, in Sri Lanka, and its name has a completely different local derivation, albeit misspelled by Portuguese explorers.

  • They are probably just supplying an android box with the "Magis TV" apk. That app still works on Firestick and is great.

    • Yeah, magis rings a bell when the guy was demoing it to me.
Is it something I could easily do myself on a fire stick or shield?

Yes it's pretty easy. Most content in Spanish, but movies and shows you can change the language or turn on subtitles. If you have downloader use code 708137
