What really got me was they disabled Bluetooth on existing devices. Which I can only see as a way to stop 3rd party software controlling them… ie you must use the offical app for control and therefore pay us.
They have since backtracked on that and will support legacy devices indefinitely. My Anova sousvide is the last I will buy from them though.
Any official source besides this reddit post?
@Niximus: Thanks
Forgot about that, add it to the list aha
From the first to launch and best available to limited support and paid subscriptions to use basic features… When does the Joule go on sale?
The app is not required for setup, or use, and you can still use the app without a subscription anyway. There are certain features that are paywalled, but you don't have to pay a subscription to use your own device. The groupthink internet panic around these machines is so stupid.
Why not complain about the fact that they're actually insanely overpriced to begin with, regardless of any ongoing subscription fees? FFS.
Yeah the oven went up $800 to $2k.

any reason you wouldn't buy the $125 Inkbird one with no subscription??

neg'ing for the hidden $us10/yr subs not mentioned on their product page.
it flashed up with a discount code "HOLIDAY10" to get a further 10% off.. so the precision cooker came down to $126 delivered for me.
Buy literally anything else. I have one of these and next year the app told me it would no longer be supported and gave me a crappy coupon to buy another one. Then said I would also have to buy a subscription to use that overpriced water heater.
So my perfectly good device will be coded out and will become landfill for no good reason.
Sad really, it worked flawlessly for the 4 or so years I've had it

Been cheaper before, will be cheaper soon, and now requires a paid subscription to use the app which is required for set up and programming recipes
Anova have killed themselves
