Good luck with the vivoactive - Battery will be dead in a year and you'll barely get to do one activity without the battery being nearly dead

How do I know? - Owned vivoactive 2, 3, 4 - kept making the same mistake.

    • Had mine for 3 years before I noticed this becoming a real problem. I had all radios switched off most of the time so maybe I just cycled the battery less than you did.

4 years now and I still get 2 or 3 days (down from 2 weeks} battery life and enough juice for a 10k run (if fully charged).

I think it's pretty fair considering it's a $350 device. It's also still better than an apple watch

Three little letters that everyone should learn: A. C. L.

      • Most people opt for C. B. F.

Garmin are generally pretty good to deal with. I've twice had an issue with a watch outside of its nominal 12 month warranty and both times they've replaced it with a refurbished unit without cost.

    • after over 2.5 years of use, my vivoactive 3 just died.

a garmin 5x plus after 4ish years still worked well when i sold it

learn how to charge a lithium battery probably
my garmin is 8 years old and can still log a hike longer than 8 hrs

    • Battery will be dead in a year and you'll barely get to do one activity without the battery being nearly dead

if this was a year ago I would probably say something like "it's a garmin no way".

same situation with my Venu SQ. I admit it's basically their cheapest model and it took more like 2 years instead of 1 year. not a athlete or heavy user so yeah but outside of warranty.

at first I thought it was a bad firmware update, because I would properly end the workout and leave it on the table then next time I go to pick it up the watch is completely dead. have to put it on the charger and it shows empty battery charging from 0%. it happened again and again. I thought "oh must be the cheapest model so if there is a bad update they don't fix it very quickly".

but 4th time I noticed, it happens when the battery goes below 50% or close to 40%. the battery inside just gives up and it dies. so the battery is dying. the battery % indication is probably not accurate, or it's just designed that way to make it seem like the battery is doing well when it is actually half the original capacity and watch dies at 40 something % and shows as completely empty battery on the charger.

I'm still using it though and it still lasts about 2 weeks before the battery dies, so I'm not going to upgrade until it's completely unusable. that's what you get for $99 I guess. just not the garmin quality I was expecting.

just my experience as well. depending on model ymmv.

      • Don't worry about the nominal warranty, contact them and they'll likely assist you. If they don't at first, then cite ACL and they more than likely will.

  • I have a vivoactive 4. get 2 to 3 days of battery out of it 2 activities per day(running) and those automated ones that kick off when you walk for more than 5 mins.

  • I have found most retailers (Harvey Norman, Office Works, JB, Rebel, etc) also have the same discounts and some may be a dollar or two cheaper and have local stock.

    yep.
no cashback, no latest models being discounted, might wait for cashback and ++discounts from HN, JB or TGG towards xmas :|

    Instinct 2 GOAT watch.

      Love mine

    • Solar or non solar?

      • +2

Mine is non solar. Charge about every 3 weeks.

        • How many GPS activities do you manage in that 3 week period do you think?

I love the battery life on mine. But I tend to charge mine once a week, depending on amount of runs I go on.

          • @huggsymersh: Nice! I am upgrading for a Forerunner 245 music so just looking at options, but the instinct is def looking good.

          • +1

@huggsymersh: Yeah I don't use GPS often. I tend to do my cardio stationary. Gps does impact the battery.

            • @wombat81: Thanks, good to know. I thought perhaps you'd unlocked a secret battery somewhere!

I've found one longish run can deplete battery life by 4-5 days of the 30 days battery life, depending on the duration of the run of course. Still, it has longer life than any other device I've had so I'm not complaining. May set my sites on a solar edition when my current one dies.

    • There is no ability to store and play music on these, is there?

      • +1

If you go into the watch you're looking at, and go to the specs table, they mention whether it has music storage or not. ie https://www.garmin.com/en-AU/p/777655#specs
Music Storage has a tick next to it.

      • No not on the instinct 2. You can control Spotify from the watch, but that's about it.

I'm not sure about the solar version.

  • The Venu 2S is $299 on eBay with eBay plus via the Bing Lee store.
The Vivoactive 5 is also $299 with eBay plus via various sellers.

    Both using code PLS600.

    • Code doesn't work

      • I'm not sure if the code is targeted or needs to be qualified for, but it worked for me earlier today.
